He suddenly went from being a huge pig to not eating at all. He'll "pick" at his food. Sigh  he also has fin rot. Do you think I should try to get him some other food from the pet store, or will he just ignore that too? I have absolutely no idea what to get either, and I don't really have the means of keeping live food. I don't know how my roomate would feel about creepy crawly things in the refridgerator, lol. I've heard freeze dried foods can sometimes cause constipation? Any advice anyone can give me would be much appreciated (I'm learning guys, I promise I won't have so many questions...as soon as I know all the answers )

Well...lost Pinkish today. He had what I thought was constipation..his belly was all bloated up..but it turned out to be dropsy. Who knows where that came from. Only had one other fish with that disorder..turns out to be one of those things that no one knows the cause of.
I noticed his belly getting larger last week and stopped feeding him..figureing he was blocked up. But he never got any better..just bigger and bigger until his scales started sticking out. I sent some pics of his condition to Jilly..which she is going to use for her betta illness booklet.
Poor guy, he was the second fish that my daughter had picked out....and the second one she recently lost...Teal was her's too. She's taken it pretty well though..knew they were sick and may not make it...and she hasn't asked for any replacements yet...lol.

Well JustLovly ! You and I should get together ! LOL !
WATER PUPPIES !!! What an excellent name for these wonderful fish!! Jilly...Take Note !
I too started with one....then added another, and another...and another..then went and bred a pair and I had over 200 all of a sudden..and most of them actually survived! What an experience...lol !
I am now down to 11 males and 9 females. The males are mostly veiltails though I do have a deltatail and some crowns. Found homes for most of my fry..only have 3 males and 4 females from that spawn left. One of them is a spade tail..the rest crowns.
These fish are wonderful and I too find myself sitting and staring at them for longer than I should when I really have other things I should be doing. It's a real challenge in self discipline to "knock it off" and get back to work...lol...like now......gotta go!
Please do visit us again and often JL ! It's Folks like us and the rest of the crew here that keep this forum going and makes it such a great place for other betta enthusiasts to come and share thier/our love for these wonderful "Water Puppies" !

JustLovly,
Welcome to the forum. I love the WaterPuppies name for them. They really are! They wag their tails, and Glitz is actually trying to flick water at me to get my attention. Plus, Glitz loves my cat Camille, and the last time I saw her drinking out of Glitz's vase, Glitz was rubbing her back along the cat's tongue. I was in shock so I missed the photo opportunity!

LOL, NAN! You MUST get us a picture of that...I hope your cat doesn't start liking the taste of Glitz as she rubs along her tastebuds....

My fish is eating again, and he's looking a lot better today He took a little bit of a downturn for the past few days and was sulking in his cave, but he looks more active today, and his spots actually look better. I tried to take some pictures with my mad fish photography skills (ha!), but I don't know if they'll turn out, and I actually do'nt have a cable to connect this camera to the computer. So we'll see. I'm really afraid of what will happen to him next week, because I have to move back home for Christmas break I completely forgot about that when I got him...I hope he makes it home okay, I'm afraid I'll cause a reinfection of ich if he's getting better Elise

Lol Nann.....hope kitty doesn't accidently lap up your little fish...but if she does, hope your there with the camera to get the expression on little Glittz'z face !
Elise, I do hope your little guy makes it ok. Try and make the move as calmly as possilbe. Try wrapping his bowl in a towel to keep the temps from shifting too much, and the darkness might also help to keep him calm. Good luck...and "Merry Christmas!"

Jilly & Emg,
LOL, I think it grossed Camille out, because the water level in the vase has remained the same ever since!
