COOL! Thank you Sandy.
I love hearing about other people's experiences and thoughts on this though!

well das, i apologize for not responding to that, but i just didn't know what to say, because i don't know much about karma. But in my own life, i figure, there are some things i can't influence and some things i can. There's no point in my concerning myself with the things i can't, so i try to just focus on things i can influence in my life. If karma determines everything, then i can't change anything at all, but that hardly means i'd stop eating or trying to make a better life. I don't see what you're supposed to do with the idea of karma. Perhaps you could explain it to me?

Karma is not a judgemental thing...It's a simple process.
"I am the owner of my Karma, heir to my Karma, born of my Karma, related to my a Karma. Whatever I do, for good or for evil, to that will I fall heir. On this should i constantly reflect"
This is one of the greatest lessons the Buddha taught.
Whatever we do, we will ultimately be responsible for. Today, tomorrow, in the next life.
So Mindfully, we transform the situations which might appear to be negative, into positive, through our attitude and acceptance of events, and we inwardly vow to use it for the good. And Mindfully, we cultivate the situations which might appear to be positive, through our attitude and acceptance of events, and we inwardly vow to use it for the good.
Simple.

Alexandra, great post on karma. In fact many of the literature I read on manifesting your life quotes Buddha. The law of attraction teaches that you are responsible for your own life and live mindfully.
It is very simple and no one needs to spend money on programs, etc. I like gathering information and knowledge on these things and have read some Buddhist writings. I feel that it all fits together, at least in my own life.
On the subject of manifesting the tree-great story! Using manifestation is about living mindfully and "noticing" what is there. I read about a guy who did an experiment manifesting coins. He found them everywhere. Were they already there and others just didn't notice them because they weren't trying to manifest coins? I tried this and I started finding coins too. Maybe I just wasn't looking before.
I think manifesting is about focusing on goals and then being mindful of ideas and information that is put in your path to help you achieve it. You can have all the goals you want to but if you are waiting for a bolt of lightning to manifest your wishes like a genie out of a bottle, then I think most would be disappointed.
I've looked at a lot of the law of attraction programs out there and I do believe that most of the "teachers" do believe what they are saying and are trying to help people to a better life. However, sometimes a better life isn't about material things at all so if that's all people are after, then again, they will be disappointed.

Joan Dearest Joan, Thank you so much for your response... If I might be so bold, an awful lot of "self-help" books are not only quoting Buddha, they seem to me to be based on Buddhism, and put forward all these wonderful, innovative self-healing methods which seem to be wonderfully new and unexplored, and the next best thing on the block, but in actual fact are as old as the hills. I have read an awful lot of self-help books, and have come to realise that there's nothing new under the sun, I'm afraid, it's just the different approaches and the way in which they are presented, which change.
