I think it is great that everyone is working out their differnces like adults on this matter. I really hate being the "Forum Mom" you know.

nadaurz - One problem I think that exists here in America is that laws differ state by state when it comes to abuse. I would love to do aritcles on laws concerning domestic violence but I have come to discover in doing research, there are federal rules that are mostly vague, and each state have similiar laws and some very different laws and punishments for crime. I think fighting abuse would be easier if laws were the same across the board, you know? When I was 6 months pregnant and my abuser started in on me, I called my best friend to come get me. In the time she was on the phone with me, she heard what he was doing. WHile I was waiting for her, I fought back. She had called the police. In the county we live in, if you fight back, you get arrested and charged. My abuser even said I was only fighting back. But since I wanted to press charges on him, they were going to take me to being 6 months preggers. So I was stuck. Now the county over from us, you get arrested if you leave bruises or tear up the house....Seems like the laws need to be changed.

Yes you are right, cd. When it comes to child abuse and punishments the laws are different state by state in America.

That must be corrected for all types of abuse.

I'm very comfy talking about this topic, but I want to browse a bit to ensure I understand the forum/flow, since I'm new. I do have some great DV links on my web page that have helped me tremendously (three expert authors in particular), but I'm not sure if it's okay for me to provide those links (trying to make sure I use this forum appropriately). So, I guess I just want to say "Hi!" and thanks for being here. smile

IsleDance-You are exactly what I was hoping to achieve when I posted this topic. I never wanted to insult, hurt, accuse, etc., anybody. Most of us have no clue what to do, but I knew someone out there did! Thanks for responding! It's such a defeating feeling when you know something is so wrong, yet you're unable to do ANYTHING to change it. You give me hope!
