Wendy,
first thing you have to concider when looking for toys for your friend is... is it safe to use in the aquarium?

i learned this the hard way by placing what seemed like a perfect toy idea, a pinkish realistic looking plastic jellyfish, into my fishy's tank.

it took my all of 2 months to find the cause of the stench that emminated from his water, even after i cleaned. he was also getting ill.

it turned out that the jellyfish toy i placed in there was the cause. seemes it was releasing some chemical into the water over time. i had forgotten that plastics and such do that.

it is alwats very important to find an aquarium safe toy, it could be the difference of life or death to your friend.

also Wendy,

some of us have used thing like the hamster habitat tubes, plastic parakeet ladders and other stuff.

when i get something for my boys i use these conciderations when buying;

will this be safe for the water health?

how difficult is this going to be to clean?

will this be able to hurt or trap my fish?

will this fit comfortably into my tank setup, still leaving plenty room to swim?

and finally,

will my little guy like or dislike this?

ENJOY!

Wendy,

You might also consider whether there are holes that the fish can get stuck in -- I've lost several otos and ADFs to some mystery snail shells, and also to a ceramic piece that tipped over. The frog climbed into the bottom hole, and died. Eeww!

Okay, first post about Jalepeno...

he's acting a little psycho, and I'm a little worried that this might be a warning sign of ich? He does look a little like he's trying to rub against the sides. Figures. But no ubermom. Could be nothing. Thoughts? I don't see anything on him right now, but he is certainly flipping out today. He is happy, as he's been working his best on a bubble nest since last night...it's kind of all over the tank though, lol. What a spaz. I tried to give him a pea earlier, but it was a little dry, so he spit it out and looked at me like "c'mon mom, what is this..." So I gave him a pellet and he gobbled that right up. What a brat, lol. A spaz and a brat.

if you don't see ick, it's not ick. Just relax. Bettas sometimes do things like scratch on stuff. If you see obvious grain of salt on his body, then you might have ick....breathe...

Haha...yeah, I promised not to be ubermom again...I like that word...he gets clean water tomorrow anyway though, because his tank smells yucky...all that walmart water...fortunately he likes resting on top of the turtle decoration, which keeps his fins clean. I like it when fish do what I want them to do...although now that I've said that...

Elise,
I can't blame you for finding your sweet boy adorable. Glad he's blowing bubbles to you.
