I came across a "Dear Margo" column the other day in which the advice-seeker states:
The problem I have is that both my sister-in-law and her boyfriend are white Anglo-Saxon adults, and he wants to name my nephew Marcello or Antonio.
I will feel just horrible for my nephew if he is named after an ethnicity that he is not part of. Why would anyone want to give their child an ethnic name that does not fit in with their heritage? I am truly worried he will be teased by his peers when he is older.
(There was more to the letter -- I'm just quoting the name-specific stuff.)
Do you agree or disagree with this person? If you were Margo, how would you respond to something like this?
