My degree is in Religious Studies, and Hinduism was one of the subjects I focused on the most actually. I see a lot of Hindu ideas in the US as part of the "New Age" movement - although it is usually the easy, fun, and flashy stuff (like Tantric Sex.)
None the less, I think Americans might actually know more about Hinduism than Islam, we're just talking about Islam more these days becase we don't know much and it is affecting our lives more.

Julie Tantrik sex is for those who want to make quick money. India exports many such bogus teachers. Yes, America's interest in Yoga itself teaches many things about Hinduism.

Tantrik sex is related to practice of black magic. Smart people have seperated that from magic and sold it seperately. Tantric sex is still practised in Tibetan Buddhism, but is extremely rare because both participants have to have reached an elevated state of understanding. The Guru and the pupil should be absolutely on equal footing, as far as it is possible. It's not the sex that is important...it's complicated, but it is a means of detaching completely from the sensual, and viewing the other person as neither male nor female.... It is being able to exercise complete physical and mental control, through detachment from these two states.

Hinduism believes in the trinity of God. The three names are- Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. In different forms God performs different ly. Brahma creates, Vishnu sustains and Mahesh or Shiva destroys. All three are same as Brahman.

No they are not. neither are they enlightened. This is a physical means of working towards attaining enlightenment. by willfully discarding and mastering - gaining total ultimate control - over inner and outer emotional fixations.

Many people in India want to get extraordinary powers. Some of these powers are for doing good to others while others are for evil acts. That is black magic. For getting good powers, there is no way other than a true Guru. For other powers that are evil, people learn magic and do tantric and mantric practices. Most of these practices are performed in cremation grounds.
Beware of any Indian Guru who shows any magic. True Gurus avoid that. If you come across aguru who performs extraordinary actions, please keep away.

Thank you for the warning CDM, it is appreciated, as ever.
But the objective in Buddhism with regard to the above, is of course entirely personal to those taking part, and no-one else. neither is it practised to achieve or demonstrate extraordinary powers.
Interesting to see the similarities - and otherwise....
