Hi! Thanks to Shannon for the links she previously gave.

I had no luck finding breeders but I am happy with the birds I found at pet stores. I have a European Goldfinch and a pied Society (both were left over individuals from 2 different pet stores, I'm a sucker for a lonely bird!) and today I got 2 orange cheek waxbills. I am so delighted with my new birds. Watching them and listening to their cheerful chirps is wonderful! Glad there's a bird forum to share my excitement!

I'm so happy for you. I also love the sound of a bunch of cheerful little chirps (with an occasional song thrown in.

Thanks, Mavis! I couldn't wait to get up this morning to open the drapes for the birds!! I've always loved feeding the wild birds but being able to watch my own little guys (or gals) and hear them into the bargain is so much better! If only my dog would relax and enjoy them instead of fussing about them!!

I am super-happy for you! I remember nearly 20 years ago how amazed I was when I purchased my first finches... one completely white zebra finch and one spice finch... I soon had an orange cheek and a few others, then a larger "tree" indoor aviary cage, cutthroats" (now known as "ribbon" finches), cordons, and oh so many more! I ended up with so many that I moved into the guest room on nights I wanted to sleep in! LOL... I gained tons of experience during those years, and that experience led me to seek out my favorite finches of the many I kept- the Blue Capped Cordon Bleus.

It took a while to find some and now I am successfully breeding for preservation. The blue caps are actually a test of my abilities and breeding success before I receive some very endangered and rare birds. As I breed entirely for preservation (not as birdkeeping or profit) - I am hoping to help breed PIED Blue Cap Cordon Bleu finches that currently only exist with a few top breeders and in the preservation departments of a very few zoos.

As soon as I get some, I will post some pictures of these pied blue caps! Wish me luck and prayers for the three precious lives currently in my care!

I have a pet photo gallery and would love to have birds in it also. Right now we have just dogs and cats. If you are interested just let me know. I think birds are so beautiful.

Hello Pauli-

Mavis probably has the best gallery of pictures on different birds! I have some, as well as pictures of dogs, cats, and HORSES too! Horses in my "family" are pets too - and I have plenty of pictures of horses and their humans. Feel free to email me or just check my website.
