Thank you, Lydia! Well, just yesterday morning I would have told you my babies were all just sweeties and never ornery at all. BUT, last night Bacall puffed up like a toad and opened her mouth as wide as it would go and HISSED at my daughter in law! She actually even stomped a few steps towards her to threaten her! (Of course, baby conures don't look all that threatening even when they posture, so we all laughed at her. That might have hurt her feelings, as she sulled up and went back in her cage to pout. LOL!) We still aren't sure what set her off, but it may have been the style of glasses my DIL was wearing. Who knows? <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Hi Jean, I didn't know that canaries were considered delicate. I would like to have one eventually, but I think some of my kids will have to move out before I have room for another bird cage! Our house is tiny! Connie in Texas

Connie: You have a blue & gold?! I am jealous! I met one of those, once, and really loved him but they are so big and my fiance didn't think our house had room. As if that matters -- <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Jean: All your birds are *very* pretty! How old are they all? What do they sound like, when they're not hissing?

Hi connie! No, I guess the canaries aren't really all that delicate, but they are so darn tiny for a bird that does any time out of the cage at all. I'm sure anyone a bit less clumsy than I would do just fine with them. I sure was tempted by the ones I saw at the pet store today!! But I decided on two Java Rice Finches instead, because they are so gorgeous and aren't really hand birds. (Although I did have to chase one of the new finches down after trying to release them into their new cage. But it only took me three tries to catch him, so that wasn't too bad.) Now they are both tucked away in the new home and are being given some private quiet time to settle down a bit. OH! And they had a gorgeous blue-and-gold there, and I thought of you! :-) I'm not really tempted by the really big birds for myself.

Hi Owllady! All three of my conures are still pretty much babies. Bogie, my Jenday, is 8 months old. Bacall, a sun, is about 7-1/2 months old. Amy, (another sun) is the baby-baby, and she's about 5-1/2 months old.
I think we must get less screaming that some conure owners, or maybe it just doesn't bother us as much. They vocalize a lot, and make kissy sound though they don't speak at all yet. But the real screaming only happens when they get scared or when they want their time on my shoulder and feel like I've ignored them too long. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Hi owllady, yes, I have a blue and gold, I am still handfeeding. A friend had also bought one of the babies from the same clutch and they have play dates, although last play date they didn't "play" very nice!! Hannah does take up a lot of space with her parrotphanalia! We have a huge cage, a huge toy that hangs in our bedroom (I should take pics of it and post them), a portable stand and a big basket we put on the floor with her toys in it. She loves to tear into the basket! I think blue and golds do have a sweet personality.

JeanM, I did call a breeder friend and she didn't think canaries were too delicate. But I think I will just see what they have at the fair. I may not get anything! Congrats on your java finches! I think finches are so cute! I love that little beeping noise that they make! Pictures please!!

Connie...the pic of Hannah and friend laying on their backs together is hilarious! Such cuties!! I know all about the parrotphanalia! My hubby just made me a t-stand out of an old coat rack...just unscrewed it and added a dowel perch at the top! (he's a genious, LOL!) Now Sammy can go everywhere with me!

Jean...those are some lovely finches! Very vibrant! I had one several years ago named "Pip" and he was so tame I could hold and pet him! Good luck with them...they're beautiful!

Hi Lydia! Thanks! Your Pip sounds wonderful! I had no idea they might actually tame down that much. It would be lovely if my new kids were to actually allow me to pet them!!! Right now I'm pretty happy that he doesn't stop singing the moment I walk up to the cage. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Hopefully with my hand going in the cage everyday to change the bath water, they'll start to see it as a good thing and not a scary thing. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
