Can someone point me to a resource for the condition "trigger finger"? I've done a search and ended up with all sorts of weird info. The DS appears to have this in his thumbs and they're talking surgery. I'd like to read up about it a bit before we get our 2nd opinion.
Here is a link I found. I hope it helps and gives you the information you are looking for. I have found some really great information through this site in the past.
Aha. There are non-surgical things you can try first. I'm hoping this second hand specialist is more willing to do something non-surgical first. I'm not adverse to surgery--just not as a first option; especially with a 7 yo.
That is a great link - can't go wrong with the Mayo. My nephew had a trigger finger that failed to improve with physical therapy. While surgeons, pediatric orthopedists are big on nonsurgical interventions and many can predict by exam which will improve with therapy and which need other options. Sometimes physical therapy improves surgical outcomes so is worthwhile regardless of whether you dodge surgery or not.
Well, we've had 3 doctors agree that a non-surgical approach isn't going to work; so, we've scheduled surgery. At least its not the hand he writes with. He'll do PT afterwards as part of the treatment.
Well it was worth the try to see if a non-surgical route would work. Keep us posted how he does with the surgery and I'll put your son in my prayers for a speedy recovery.
