Usually within a few day & up to a couple of weeks after mating. They will usually mate daily or several times daily until all the eggs have been laid.

I won't be getting my birds back Phillip. I kept my African Grey Parrot, Jewel, and have been looking for permanent homes for the rest of them. I haven't bred any birds for several years, although a couple of pairs of Cockatiels are at a friend's place, where they are currently set up for breeding and are laying eggs now.

Does your pair have any eggs yet?

I stopped breeding several years ago, because I had too many birds and couldn't bear to part with the babies most of the time. It was getting too expensive to keep so many birds, so I found homes for all the breeders (who weren't tame anyway) & just kept all the babies who were my pets.

Then during this past summer, I was having difficulties breathing and ended up in the hospital for almost 2 weeks. It was determined that the problems were caused by my birds and I was ordered to find new homes for them. At first I just had them taken temporarily because I was sure my doctor was wrong, but it seems she wasn't. So, only Jewel remains and the other birds are finding permanent homes. frown

{{{Mavis}}} That must have been so hard parting with them. What caused the breathing problem? Dander?

Yes - it was very hard parting with these birds. Many of them hatched in my home and were handfed by me. Not being able to breath was very scary though and I never want to have to go through that again. I asked my doctor for some testing to determind if it was the feathers or the dander or the droppings that caused this, but so far she hasn't set up the testing for that.
