I was Bingoed this weekend by a friend who knows my husband just got snipped. *sigh*

It was the typical "I thought *I* didn't want kids either, but I'm SO happy I did!"

Does you friend not realize what snipped is?!

This reminds me of a conversation with another co-worker. I was talking about getting sterilized and she said, no, that my husband should get a vasectomy because it would be a less invasive surgery. Then she says, "That way, if you change your mind, it can be reversed."

I know vasectomies can be reversed sometimes, but it's not meant to be a temporary birth control. That's a scary thought...just when you think you're safe when your spouse or significant other gets snipped, the bingos still can come (SIGH). <img src="/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

I was disappointed and confused by her comment. It goes back to people's tendencies not to take the childfree seriously. It never occurred to me that someone would associate sterilization with any other run of the mill birth control method.

Lots of people also seem to think that vasectomy is more or less the same thing as castration! I.e., you're not just disconnecting the plumbing, you're doing away with the testes altogether!

There's no end to the ways in which people are misinformed (particularly, it seems when it comes to the decision to have kids or not). <sigh>
