My husband and I each have separate insurance through our employers. It's a lot less expensive for each of us to be on a "single" plan. Recently we looked into putting him on my insurance, because there was the possibility he would be out of work. My insurance premiums would more than TRIPLE to add him and have the family plan! I wish more businesses would offer lower premiums for just two people.

I was able to find an insurance policy that gives me quite a nice break for not being a parent. I was happy to find it, as I'm self-employed.

Although I'm very uncomfortable with government controlling who can and cannot have children, I would readily support the government poking its nose into the business of those who support themselves and their children on public funds. They should be subject to at least the same scrutiny as those hoping to adopt. I would also support criminally penalizing men who continue to impregnate women while not financially supporting the children they've already brought into the world. I also don't see anything wrong with offering free birth control and sterlization to those who desire it.

It would also be nice (albeit unlikely) if our culture would present having children as an option instead of a given.

I am fortunate in that even though I work for a City Government in Civil Service and can get insurance, it's still not as cost effective nor as good as what the Feds offer. Working for the Federal Government is the way to go. They offer so many options of investing and saving your money also. I'm not a HUGE stock guru and so a little help in that area is very much appreciated. I should've went Fed long ago.

Bass - I like your thinking, but you know as well as I do that won't happen until we're all out of resources and haven't figured out how to grow food on air and live on Saturn yet! Luckily for all of us, we'll be long gone by the time THAT happens thank GOD.
