oh you guys...

i don't know if the bettas sulking is a problem with anyone but it was for me for awhile. the spoiled brats would sulk for a day if i turned on or off (depending on who it was) the bubbler, cleaned thier tank, removed a dead critter, or whatever.

this may seem mean but, i put an end to that [censored] by not showing up to work for a few days in a row. one week i didnt show up for a couple of days, the next week i would only show up at night. ya know, mix it up a bit. well that stopped any whining or betta brattiness from them. they now appreaciate and don't complain (much) about anything i do. 'cept Sparky flares at me when i turn his bubbler on and the brat now has the frog biting at the bubbler tube when it starts. i swear those two are no good.

Hello Hil

Well, I don't know anything about aquarisol...but anything that is specifically for ick should be fine. Raising the temps is good. I would also add aquarium salt..to try and head off any secondary infections. The ick meds stress the fish a bit and that could weaken them somewhat so that they are more suseptable to fungus ills. The salt helps to lessen the chances of that somewhat..it's also good for the fish!

You could also read up on ick treatments on some of the threads. If you check out the first thread and browse through the links there, you'll find one on that subject I'm sure.

so i got the ick medicine and put it in my whole tank last night in case i just couldn't see it on the platies cuz they are so light and when i woke up this morning there was no ick to be seen but GT has clamped fins lost his colour and is barely moving i'm worried the medicine is worse for him than the ick is. the platies are still chasing each other around but i'm worried about GT. anyone have any suggestions? thanks

Hil, try taking out some of the water and replacing it with aged water of the same temp. Ick med is actually copper. Ick cannot tolerate as much copper as the fish can. If you lower the copper level a bit at a time your betta won't get shocked by a drastic change all at once.

I hope he pulls through for you Hil!

Well I bought my new Betta today. I am waiting a couple of days before naming him. Just in case. I don't want to get attached and have him die again. Anyway, so far things are looking better. I built a cave in the bottom of the vase. Someone mentioned they like to hide. I also bought the fish at a more respectable pet shop. Not one of these major chain pet stores. So far the fish has eaten, so I will take that as a good sign. Anyway I will keep you all updated.

GT is looking better he finally came out of his cave (for a little while i was worried he had died in there) there was no sign of the ick and his fin rot has gotten real awful so i quarentined him again which he doesn't like after experiencing so much room but he'll deal with it, so after adding an antibiotic to the water do i have to do a full water change before i can put my bio-wheel back in?

Well, now there are six! LOL I went to PetCo yesterday to look around, and saw a boy with a split tail. The rest of his fins looked pretty ragged as well. I took him up to the counter and asked if he was a double tail, or if he has fin rot.

The clerk said he thought it was probably fin rot, and I asked what they would do for him. He looked uncomfortable for a moment, then said, "We'll medicate him". So, I asked if I could adopt him. The clerk agreed, and said the fish would be written off as a loss.

I bought some more bettafix, and some pretty rocks, but for now he's in a Walmart bowl with bettafix, and I plan to add a little bit of salt tonight. He's greenish with blue and turquoise fins. I hope he pulls through cause he's very lively and is flaring at Grapel, and flirting with Glitz and Sweetie. Joseph has named his fish Glitter, "cause he goes with Glitz". He suggested I call the new one Green Glitter. LOL

No name until I'm sure he's gonna make it.
