There are no truly selfless acts and, in that sense, everything is done for greed. You want more money, time, freedom - you're greedy because you don't have kids. You want more recognition, snot, diapers - you're greedy because you have kids. Everyone's greedy on some level. Show me a truly selfless person and I'll eat my dirty undies.

Either way it was a bit arrogant of you to first; try and tell jmb what her father SAID, and second; to try and water down the situation by using terms such as "maybe", "intent", "imply" and "hypothesizing". Why would you even begin to assume that someone you don't even know may have themselves used the wrong term? Or worse, try and dissect what they may have REALLY meant to convey?
I know Bellaonline is trying to keep this a slightly friendlier CF forum. So, while we're all working together on trying to stroke the tender feelings of the sensitive, why don't we work on not making so many assumptions that we turn a simple situation into a Liberal-spun disaster?
I think to reciprocate the same respect to those who truly have had a negative experience would be greaty appreciated.

You're reading too much into what I said, and making assumptions.I clarified my point in the above post, with apologies for the misunderstanding... Why are you being so defensive over a post that actually was just a general response, into a discussion you hadn't even entered yet? I could well understand it if JMB had taken offence, but I can't entirely see why you've taken umbrage.... <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

As relates ONLY to myself, I have considered myself at times to be greedy for not having children. Greedy with my time mostly, however, and not with any material thing I own, which I would gladly share with family or good friends.
I have other reasons too, but am willing to admit a greed motivation as well, not just the not wanting to burden the planet motivation, etc.
(Please do not imply that because I ascribed this to myself, that I in any way think others either are, or should admit it or anything else of the sort. This is just me and I know myself. I don't know others' motivations.)

My dad was always one for playing devil's advocate. But he did it to make sure I wasn't riding the fence about an issue. and to make sure I was thinking about all options. But it was annoying when it happened. But stubborn seems to run in the family. Greedy is a funny word. I immediately think of the green eyed monster, and my life w/my hubby is not a rich one, monetarily anyway. I think people are just wired differently. And people who don't understand that need labels. It's a shame really, that people just can't accept others as is.

Ah, but even the DL is motivated by something. I still maintain that there are no truly selfless acts. Every act, not matter how philathropic, is motivated by some payoff. Inner peace, warm fuzzies, whatever, the motivation is there.

Could you please highlight where exactly in my post I assumed anything? YOU are the one assuming and I think I made that quite obvious by putting your words into quotation marks ("").
So, the fact that I haven't partook in the discussion eariler on denies me the right to interject at a later time? So, it's OK for a married w/kids person to come here and voice his or her objection to selected verbage and the offense taken to that language, but it's not OK for me, a married no kids person, to comment on a thread? Sounds a little unfair to me.
Please explain that.
