Some days back I had received a PM on Bellaonline requesting me to participating in another forum. I was aghast.

Where are the morals?
Those who want to leave this forum should email each other and decide. But not on this forum itself. This is my own opinion.

The best and only effective way to leave a forum/thread is to simply no longer contribute.

It really is that easy, and simple.

We have one new poster who sounds like a future parent to me, not a childfree woman. That will happen if the name of the forum is "Married, No Kids". That's a completely seperate issue from everything else that's gone down in the past week or so. This board is CF by implication, not by title.

I'm not one of the folks who discussed any of the recent events with Kim. But I can't say I was sad to see it brought up. I *was*, on the other hand, absolutely shocked that some folks felt it necessary to take their marbles and go home simply because of a semantic issue (*not* a speech issue --- the topics they were discussing were not the problem).

I've had a bellyful of the implication (or the flat-out lecture) on a few unmoderated groups that I'm somehow less CF than others because I don't refer to all parents (whatever their skill level) by reductionist names which are offensive to me. Most of what is wrong with the unattentive, clueless parents that many of us encounter so often is a lack of regard for others; a lack of civility. So we're going to successfully address that with *more* incivility?

Why did these other users leave this forum? I read just about every post, but still clueless why they left.

Basically, they were using hateful language in their discussions, which was offensive to some people. And because BellaOnline is a family friendly website, they were asked to tone down their speech.

That's why they left.

It's been my experience that those who leave are only doing so because they can't instigate and cause problems by calling out others... I say good riddence!

There is nothing wrong with carrying on a civilized conversation where others can feel free to express themselves without offending and hurting some one else.

Bella Online has always supported comfortable adult conversation without obscenity or threatening behaviour and I for one think we should stay that way. I fully support the moderator in this forum and her efforts to keep this Bella Forum according to Bella Standards.. Job Well Done!!

You know, I'm NOT child free!! <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> But I fully support the efforts in having a place for those who have similar life styles to gather and feel comfortable talking about the issues they deal with...

Frankly, I never saw any hateful language except towards those who seem to not understand what parenting entails. But from what it sounds like, we can't even call those kinds of people out on their misconduct because some random person might get offended when it doesn't even apply to them.

It's one thing to tone down language, it's another to ask everybody to tiptoe around because they *might* offend somebody.
