Jim, actually, I think you'll find DJC IS an American Citizen....

And America is notoriously bad with regard to The environment and Global Warming... have you not noticed how the seasons and the climates have changed...? You put this down to what, then?
The USA basically vetoed everything the Kyoto Summit put forward, and the Environmental policy has been swept aside.

With Great Power comes Great responsibility.

It would be so nice to see America doing something right for a change, instead of following the Bush-like policy of 'we're the biggest and the best, and we'll do what we want!'
That may not be the intention, but believe me, that's how it comes across...

The seasons and climates have not changed, except in the imaginations of those who so desperately want to believe in global warming.

Jim, I am an American citizen. As a matter of fact, for a good deal of my messages, I actually signed as DJC, an American in Norwich, UK. Guess you didn't really read them.

There's a very well known saying. The best way to get rid of your enemies is to make them your friends. Worked pretty well for Germany and Japan, I'd say. Responding to terrorism with the killing of thousands of innocents just makes more terrorists. The US has done a good job of proving that.

I'm also a trained (Ph.D., UVA) scientist, and I am surprised that you do not know that only a tiny tiny minority of scientists question global warming. The vast majority are firmly convinced. If you question that glaciers are disappearing, it would be very easy to check the web for information and pictures. Here's just one site:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retreat_of_glaciers_since_1850

Since 1995, they have been retreating at an increased rate.

As for Al Gore, he is not the leading proponent of global warming in the US. For that, try the authors of articles in Nature or Science, the premier science journals. Al Gore is a person who respects experts in their fields and who has gone to great efforts to see that their results are made accessible to the general public.

I gave you too much credit by suspecting you of being a GOP shill. You are now sounding much more like a 13-year=old troll.

Can not all the nations give up the nuclear weapons forever? Otherwise with likes of Q.A. Khan of Pakistan having sold technoology to many, some other country will develop them soon. How many countries can be stopped?

Nuclear weapons are not for use. They are only to maintain a threat. Why not destroy all of them for peace?

No reason. I once heard a very apropos analogy. This is like a bunch of people standing knee-deep in gasoline hoarding matches.

It all pretty much started with the cold war between the US and Russia and the idea of "mutual assured destruction" Isn't that a brilliant idea?

As usual, the EU is teaching us all. This is a set of countries that were at each other's throats, in constant war, one place or another, for thousands of years. Now they have decided to work together where they have interests in common that are served by that, while trying to maintain their individual character and doing any number of exchanges to build understanding and appreciation of each other's cultures.

Wouldn't it be marvelous if instead of building fences and spending so much on efforts to shore-up lines between nations in the Americas, an AU were formed. The good example is there beofre us.

Can any thing make all the countries give up their bombs? Or it is only a dream?

The terrorists who flew planes into the Twin Towers on 9/11 should have taken your advice and made friends rather than enemies of Americans.

We would not be in this predicament.

I am in a library. My time is running out. I shall return.

Jim,

I thought Saudi Arabia was considered one of our friends already.

We would also not be in this predicament if we had spent say, 1/10th of what we have spent on this war, on a Grameen Bank-type program in Muslim countries. The major terrorist organizations have won the hearts of the people there by providing schools and other social services where there were none before.
