I hear ya-

I went into a small yarn shop and started loading up on some eyelash and ribbon yarn and such and although I only walked out of there with about 4 skeins it was $60!! The woman in there was really nice so when she rang me up I just smiled and handed her my credit card. Back to Michaels for me...( at least prices there are clearly marked)

Ok - I confess I just overspent on yarn and I would do it again if I could!!
I just found an amazing yarn store in my area (Bucks county PA) and it has the most amazing yarns. Yes, there are some very pricey ones- but not nearly as expensive as the ones in that snobby boutique. It is huge! two rooms floor to ceiling of yarn- they had EVERYTHING! from Noro to trendsetter to well- everything and size skeins. They also had a TON of books and magazines. Lots of room for their classes in the back room and they had all sizes and shapes of hooks and needles. I actually found a size Q tunisian that I had no idea anyone made! And it was only $10. Many of their skeins were just $6 and still the best quality. I guess there are still mon and pop type yarn stores out there that offer good prices on top quality yarns!

Oh geez those people need to get a life.I use what I can afford and depending on how well I think the person getting the item will care for it.I buy lots of yarn & cute clothes at walmart and very readily tell someone who asks were I got it.I don't think it matters what something cost if you like it you like it, and if you can afford it buy it. I use cheaper yarn more because I can make more stuff, if all I used was pricey yarn I wouldn't be able to make as much.

I agree! I have suddenly TONS of yarn!! eek & I bought some of it at our local discount store, Pamida. Its mostly red heart. Some I won at ebay, but none of it is expensive or specialty yarn, BUT I like all of it, and I think its perfect for the stuff I am making, and have on my to crochet list! HOWEVER my lil old lady neighbor, who is the sweetest thing ever, was over visiting and had a friend with her, and the friend said she was sorry all my hard work was wasted on such "cheap" no good yarn!! I about fainted and immediately thought of this post by Kaycee!! SOME people even if they are 90, have WAY too much time on their hands!

The next time just tell her (with a smile)
My yarn may be inexpensive but what I make with it is priceless. *wink*

Do you have a favorite hook yet?

I'm so glad you are trying differnt sizes of hooks. I've been crocheting for many years and have always been partial to my H hook. But lately I decided to try the "other side of the alphabet" and go with some larger hooks. It's fun and I really like how quickly you can finish a project!
I'm working my way up to a Q!

The snobs would love buying yarn at the shop I go to...they sell candles and incense and such, so all the yarn smells yummy . In fact, because of this, we stick little packs of incense in our yarn caddies so everything continues to smell yummy.

It's called the Stitch Inn and it is in Lahaska ( next to Peddlers village right on 202) if you are nearby- it is sooo worth it!
