So now that Trish has left, there is no true top woman wrestler. Trish has been the top woman for a long time and now someone will have to step up and be the leading female wrestler.
Could it be Lita or is she outbound?
What about Melina? Will she move into more more wrestling and less valeting?
Mickie James isn't a bad wrestler and has a good style as far as being able to act different ways.
Victoria has been overlooked for years.
There are others - Torrie, Candice, Maria, etc but I don't count them as true women's wrestlers.
On Smackdown, there is Jillian Hall who shows promise. I don't see anything from Ashley.
Who do you think, a year from now, will be the #1 female wrestler in WWE?
Or will the division fizzle out?

I really think Melina is the only one with promise because she's one of the only one I can think of with all of the below. a) wrestling talent (needs work but it's there) b) mic skills (her voice can grate but she speaks meaningfully) c) acting talent d) more popular than the people she manages (remember Test & Albert with Trish...) e) Fabulous body/looks
Most of the current divas have one or two of the above (although most of them only have E), but I think Melina is the total package and if she takes the same steps as Trish I think she can be up there.
I think they'll probably have a tournament/battle royal/etc for the vacant title and I only see it going to Mickie or Melina.
I really like Melina though so perhaps my opinion isn't very objective.

I think Mickie James has the greatest potential & I think is already several steps above the other women in most ways. She is quick witted & good on the mic and has great wrestling skills. Lita is a great wrestler but doesn't seem like she has her heart into anymore. Melina is not bad. She just needs to wrestle more.

I'm the opposite to Ice - I really like Mickie, so perhaps my opinion isn't very objective!!
I think Melina really needs to wrestle more to be someone who they can pin the division on. And while I wouldn't mind seeing her as #1, I think Mickie is the best person to be the top girl. She's proven she can wrestle. And she really had the crowd wrapped around her little finger during her feud with Trish; if they just give her something, she'll be able to feud with anyone. I think she's more flexible in terms of being a face or a heel, and that's someone you need on top.
Whatever they decide to do, if they're serious about a women's division they need to start thinking about things now.
I think they also have to make sure that, if Lita goes, they keep Vic around. They need someone with her experience to remain to guide the division, even if she's not going to be at the forefront of it.
And I'll say it again - they need to bring Jillian over!
Little umbrellas get the party started right!

Itll come down to Mickie and Melina for sure. They are the new Trish and Lita of the womens division.
There is, however, one main weakness of Mickie's character, IMO: it was based entirely off another diva (Trish). She copied Trish's moves, her manerisms, everything, and never really established her own identity, and she suffered for it after the feud with Trish was ended. She really had no character motivation now that Trish was gone. But now that we're turning over a new leaf, hopefully WWE can figure out Mickie's real life personality and somehow turn that into a character that fans can latch onto. I hope she'll also be given the chance to do her own moveset - whatever it is.
Melina is much more independent as far as character development goes because she wants to be #1 Diva, and she can keep that character regardles of who she's feuding with.
I guess we'll have to wait and see how it plays out, but Im definitley figuring that WWE wants to put these two in a match by WrestleMania 23 and build it up as something big.

-Martman Mickie James has been coming into her own for months now. She was champion already for a reason. The Trish Stratus gimmick was done extremely well and she did it in her own way. The fans definitely got involved in that whole psycho thing. Anyways, have you seen her promos lately? She's pretty much already there.

Oh I agree. Mickie played her character SO well, and thats why fans supported her at WrestleMania. Im not putting Mickie down at all! I think shes very talented. Its just that after the fued with Trish ended, it seemed like she floated around aimlessly for awhile there without direction.

I think they need to give Victoria a good run she has what it takes, not a fan of Melina (could it be that grating voice?? well it has me and my sons saying SHUT UP!!) Mickie James she played the crazy good enough could she take it to the next level??

Knowing the WWE it will probably be Vito as the next women's champ. <img src="/images/graemlins/wall.gif" alt="" />

I love Vito!! lol
I like Mickie James much better than Melina. Mickie is much more convincing and she is a better worker.
Melina almost put me to sleep (It was like watching paint dry, Ha!) with her press conferences (One about Batista and the last one). She flubs her lines and just comes off stiff.
Mickie has a ton of potential and I think the hug Trish gave her was a passing of the torch. I know Melina will be in the mix and may even be touted as the #1 female but I would prefer Vitoria and Mickie over Melina any day.
