I could have easily been in that boat myself, Katja. With an English lit degree (not a teaching degree - still kicking myself for that move), I had to be pretty flexible regarding a career. I ended up doing environmental documents for an engineering firm, which led into doing marketing material for them. I had to beg and beg them to let me switch, though.
No, it's the ones like a guy my friend knows -- he's in investment banking, makes stinking good money, and refuses to leave home until he's like 35 so he can basically pay cash for a house (or something nutty like that). Sure, it's great for his finances, but come on! My parents threatened to make me pay rent when I was still working retail after graduation. Why aren't these parents able to stand up to their mooching kids and tell them to get their own lives??
