I personally thing that's what post-partum depression really is....the reality that these women are overwhelmed with parenthood and hate it. I know what you mean by babies and kids invading everything...all the advertisements and so on making parenting look wonderful. I wish they would show the real side of it. Ugh, moms being models! Yuck!

Someone had referenced Dr. Phil on the site, saying that if most people realized the consequences of having kids and the difficulty in raising them, that more people wouldn't have them. I'm glad the woman in the Dear Abby article came out and said how she felt, but it seems like such a taboo to ever admit that. I guess it's social engineering at work!

Hey, Karenb,

I read that Dear Abby one this morning, and I was about to post it here too. I couldn't believe that one...a woman should leave a man who doesn't care about her choices and her quality of life. I have to ask, though...if she didn't want kids and hubby was on the fence, why didn't she take better care to AVOID having them? For that matter, why did she marry someone who didn't share her values, and why didn't they talk about this scenario before they got married? (I know I talked about all that stuff before ever getting intimately involved with any partner, as well as discussing every possible outcome with my hubby before we married.)

The dear abby article does prove something about another post, though...another post on this forum is dealing with breeders saying about kids, "it's different when it's your own." Well apparently not!

We should all take this to heart...we are looking at what would happen to some of us if we had an "accident." We really would be miserable.

Take it to heart, and tell the bingoers, "It's better to not have them, then to have them and not want them..."

Exactly, Xantres. What a horrible marriage to have when your spouse doesn't respect your wishes or well-being. I do wonder too, why the Dear Abby woman didn't take more precautions or whether she and her husband had talked about it before they got married. It sounds like he didn't particularly want one either, but why suffer with it? Sounds like a male chauvinist who doesn't want to take any responsbility....but he can just take off. If he was having to deal with her all day, I bet he would change his mind in a heartbeat.

I feel sorry for the kid. They should have put her up for adoption...it would be a kinder option.

I'm definitely taking it to heart...I know I would feel the same way if I was stuck in the situation. It's definitely better to not have any than to have them and not want them.

[color:"blue"] Fireandice, watch the animal planet. Instead of centering around kids and brats, it centers around animls!!! I love to watch the canine unit. [/color]

If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him."
