It is so wierd seeing your article because I just tried to quit drinking Dr. Peppers. I was going to try just one a day vs 8 a day! I kept a bad headache and was so moody. The withdrawals were horrible. I know my weight gain is due to this addiction. Not to mention all the other symptoms you mentioned in your article, which I have all of them. I know I should drink more water and I stay anemic. Doctors should try to warn others more of caffeine that can cause a good many of our health problems... Caffeine Intoxication

I have a major Mountain Dew addiction. I am trying to wean myself off of it but it has been incredibly difficult. I used to drink at least 2 - 2 liter bottles a day but now I am down to just one a day. It is amazing the things that it does to your body that so many people just don't realize. Everyone knows it is bad for you but not the details of it.

Tina,

Maybe you could try to drink one soda and then you can't drink anymore until you drink one water. It helps to do it slowly because it isn't such a shock to the system. That may help with the anemia. I was so anemic I had to have 9 weeks of liquid iron infusions. That was not much fun. The problem is dehydration. The body needs water to digest food and properly absorb vitamins and minerals. Without the water you just can't absorb what you eat so it doesn't do you any good.

I am Diet Dr. Pepper's most valuable customer, and while they are in no danger now, I'll warn you guys if I ever decide to give up caffeine (their stock price is sure to fall) LOL.

However, I quit smoking this year and I have a "quit no more than one addiction" per year rule, so they're good for 2006. <img src="/images/graemlins/kiss.gif" alt="" />

I almost think caffeine is worse. I have a much harder time trying to give up Mountain Dew than I do cigarettes. I am trying to quit both but I haven't done it yet. It is really hard even though I know how horrible they are for me.

Caffeine and chocolate are my big issues (well, chocolate has caffeiene). I'm down from 1 pot of coffee per day (plus the odd soda/tea) to 1 cup of coffee in the morning and then 1 at night. Not too bad. Put chocolate in front of me though and watch out!

Women who drink caffinated and carbonated beverages should really work on weaning themselves off the soda pop, as the carbonation leeches calcium and other minerals out of the body and can contribute to osteoporosis issues in later life.
