Okay. How do you deal with the stress that comes from not being able to do anything for yourself and being stuck at home?

I broke my leg a couple of weeks ago. Spent a week+ in hospital. This is day 3 at home for me, the first I spent during the day at home without family/friends around, and I'm going bonkers. I can't get around on my own right now. I'll trade this stupid splint thing in for a hip to toe fiberglass cast next week sometime--after the swelling goes down some more. But until then, I'm stuck hobbling between bed and bath.

I have my laptop to stay connected to people--somewhat.

I have a bag of yarn and am bound and determined to learn to crochet something.

I have books/magazines.

But I don't have PEOPLE around during the day--well, okay, the home health aide... but she doesn't talk much.

Suggestions? Tips?

Wow, that didn't take long! LOL

Usually I enjoy at least one day of peace and quiet before I start getting "cabin fever" - but on the other hand I have a child going through the "terrible 3s" right now; so I'd be glad to escape!

Start writing letters to people that you have been meaning to keep in touch with - but haven't had time. "Snail-mail" may be old fashioned, but it really does mean a lot to people to get a hand written letter in the mail.

Keep your cell phone (or cordless phone) handy and chat up anyone you can think of that may be home during the day. Chances are if they are at home; they'd probably be glad to talk to a grownup, too! (I know I crave adult conversation that doesn't involve words like "Blue's Clues" or "Dora").

Think of all the movies you've been dying to see, but haven't had a chance to - and guilt your friends and family into renting them for you. You've got plenty of time. Be sure to get lots of comedies though, the laughters supposed to help you heal quicker!

I'm not sure I even remember how to write snail-mail letters anymore. Hah!

I tried watching movies today, but I kept getting lost. I have good concentration in spurts, then my mind sort of wanders. The painkillers don't help.

I called cousins today, again the concentration thing got me.

I do okay w ith the computer. I think because I can put it down and pick it up a gain later without any problem.

I'm like you, I go nuts when I have to stay home. I'm not to drive/work/be alone because of my health. I've been doing it for about 19 months now.

I got online and had the library pull books and had someone stop in a get them for me. I couldn't focus on reading while in a house, alone. I had never been alone in complete quite (except on retreat) before.
I checked out easy easy books. I had always wanted to finish reading the Bearenstien Bears books. From there I moved on to Little House books and onto books that I could read for a short period of time and not have to start over. Humor section is great <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I'd recommend "Up the Staircase Backwards" The tittle is based on when the author had a broken leg (why I thought of it) and had to go up the stairs backwards.

I took up making digital images. Bryce 5.5 is a great program and is easy to use. There are a few others that are free and alow you to make some interesting things.
