Do you have furred, feathered, scaled or other non-human children or are you planning on adopting one/some?
My SO calls them our human substitutes. We have two dogs--my mutt and his Blue Healer; a couple of budgies and a tank full of fish.

Hi Wildfern! I have a cat, Zoe, and a mini-lop rabbit, Preston. I would like to get a dog too but my partner has put his foot down for the time being! I love my animals and spoil them rotten with love and attention. And...when they are misbehaving or annoying, I just put them outside!

I love cats! But my SO is massively allergic--breaks out in welts anytime he gets near cat fur.

We had to put our beautiful cat to sleep just over three months ago. She got feline meningitis and that was that. She'd always been poorly since being a rescue cat first day, but we hoped that she would live more than the three and a half years she eventually made it to. I still miss her, and can't even think about getting another. My OH feels ready for us to adopt another, but i just can't face it yet. I love all animals though; we live in a very rural area which is still only 4 miles from the nearest town and the place is teeming with wildlife. I feel very lucky to be able to open my doors out onto the garden in the morning and see rabbits, hares and every variety of wild bird.

we have a rottweiler (we found him when he was a day old abandoned by a breeder) who is now 7 years old. he's precious. still has his tail too. my dh doesn't like dogs at all, but when we saw this little guy who was still blind at the time, had no teeth yet, couldn't even walk hardly, his heart melted. dh is the one who fed him puppy formula for the first few weeks even. he calls him a "chick magnet."
we also have 3 cats we have adopted. eldest is a grey/white tuxedo male. then a gorgeous grey/black/white stripey spotty female. and finally the ugliest little female ever (all orangey and grey and black).
my dh is allergic to cats and dogs, but he has been taking allergy shots for almost a year, and is doing much better.

Furred, feathered, scaled? Try stuffed. We adopt toys. Just yesterday in the candy store I mentioned in another post, DH picked out a fuzzy TY (beanie baby?) chick and we adopted it. It is very huggable.

I had to put my dog to sleep a few months ago. He was 18 years old and we pretty much grew up together. I will get another one eventually, but not for a while.
Mother always said that even when things seem bad there's someone else who's having a worse day. Like being stung by a bee or getting a splinter or being chained to the wall in someone's sex dungeon.

[color:"487878"]Hubby and I have a beautiful grey cat named Rosa and two adorable little finches. I grew up with dogs and love them, but can't really get any of my own till we're out of apartments. Rosa thinks she's a dog, though... she totally loves to play fetch with twist ties and beaded necklaces. I never even had a dog who'd play fetch![/color]
