BellaOnline Forums Health and Fitness Gynecology question regarding uterine infection

would a chronic uterine infection (i'm talking having one go undiagnosed for several years) permanently damage the uterus?

also, how would i know if it's damaged? would it show up on the biopsy (that's how the infection was diagnosed, along with the history of severe pain)? would an ultrasound show anything that would hint at damage?

jsut being overly curious.

I am not sure how a doctor would know how long you have had an infection in the uterine lining. It would be unlikely that you had a significant ongoing infection anyplace for years since infections have the potential to erode of the lining of whatever cavity is surround them. Perhaps you have recurrent mild infections which your body cleared between episodes.
A biopsy would tell the doctor how much damage/scarring was done to the lining. An ultrasound would show a walled off infectin (abscess),which is highly unlikely.

thanks for your reply, dr maria. i saw the dr again wednesday, and he feels there probably isn't damage. we haven't seen anything unusual on ultrasounds at least. he did do a second biopsy though to make sure the infection is gone completely, but he wants me to do a second round of antibiotics just in case even if it comes back clear. yuk.

but thanks again. i'm actually feeling a little hopeful now.
