Even if Mass is said in another language one has never heard before, at least if one knows the Mass well in one's own language, going to Mass regularly and participating in the Mass mean that you know darn well what is being said. That was my experience in the Holy Land, in Lourdes, and twice when I was in Africa as a Missionary.

When I was small, the Mass was said in Latin. People prayed the Rosary, read, or slept - because they had no clue WHAT was being said.

It is nice to offer the Mass in Latin, as an option, but please God, the Mass will remain in the vernacular! VERY FEW read along in their Missalettes to know what was going on back in the Latin-only days, and I'm afraid it would be even worse now. As it stands, we are losing all our young people. We need their vitality and energy to fuel Our Church! Lets not lose them by becoming even more arcane than we already are!
