Dear Kimber,
I have been married to an Italian man since I was 19, I am now 45. My husband moved over here from Italy with his family when he was 18. It is not true that Italian men are chauvinistic. Italian men are real men. They are macho (machismo). Italians are excellent fathers and family men. They actually are hands on dads. They are brought up honoring their mother and father. They do not believe in nursing homes for the elderly. It is the families job to take care of elderly parents.
They are very family oriented men. They love children and prefer their wife to stay home and be with the children because they are so family oriented. Is that chauvinistic to you? Italian men are good providers too. What else would you want in a man?
If you are a career minded woman and have the need to power up yourself through that career, then I encourage you to talk with your future husband about it.
As for the mother in law---I have always been accepted into my husbands Italian family. That too is so untrue. Dont believe everything you hear. I am very close with my mother in law and just last year we took a vacation together to the Dominican Republic.
I think it is sooooo funny how some people and cultures are stereotyped like this. You should hear what the Italians say about the Americans. LOL
Much happiness to you! God bless.
