sl207, sorry for the personal question, but did you have a hysterscope or any other testing for fibroids done before the Novasure?

Thanks in advance.

javamama,

I picked up my medical records from her office yesterday, and according to her notes a hysteroscopy was performed directly prior to the Novasure procedure. I am also reading in the ultrasound report, that was done prior to the procedure, that I had several fibroids at that time.

I now am now more educated and know that an endometrial ablation does not make fibroids go away. They will come back.

I will say that the Novasure procedure did wonders for me, my periods went from horrendous, to what I imagine a normal person would have, and then to pretty much nothing. I just happen to also have an extremely enlarged uterus with several large fibroids. I now know that my uterus was much larger than the maximum size the procedure was designed for. If I would have known to double check my doctor by requesting copies of ultrasound reports, etc. prior to the procedure, I would have questioned her about the discrepancies between what she was telling me versus the reports. Live and learn I guess.

DMAPLES: What does your gynecologist have to say about this? Keep on your doctor to find an answer. I ended up having a hysterectomy a few weeks ago, because the Novasure ended up not being the right procedure for me. After switching to a new gynecologist (the one who did my hysterectomy), I was told that Endometrial Ablations are designed to reduce/eliminate bleeding, but not the pain. Please keep us posted.

I am very interested in having this procedure done, it sounds like the answer I have been looking for! BUT, I am still not sure after reading all of the replies if it is recommended for someone who has fibroids. I have one small one and one large (5 centimeters) one. I have only seen my GP not an OB yet.

I am interested in how you are doing a few months later. I had the Novasure treatment on Friday March 16th. I had to take Monday off from work because I am having bad cramping still. If I stay on the painkillers I cant go back to work so I stopped them Sunday afternoon. I had a terrible night and ended up calling in sick. How long did your pain last and how do you feel about the treatment now?

I'm so glad for google and finding a board where I can find honest opinions on this procedure vs the 'testemonials' on the novasure page.
I had my initial consult with gyn on fri and it looks like this is the way I'm leaning instead of the oral contraceptive route for heavy bleeding. I had my uterine biopsy done Friday and have follow u/s scheduled for April 16. I don't anticipate them finding any fibroids or that biopsy is not normal.
I'm a big conflicted though after reading here as it seems for many who posted problems continued or new ones cropped up and ultimately the result was still a hysterctomy. If you had to choose again would you choose novasure or skip and go straight for hysterctomy?

I had the novasure ablation done on April 4th 2007. I did very well for the first week. Yesterday April 11, I started heavy bleeding at work. Today if subsided, and I went in for a check up. After my check up, I started heavy bleeding again. I do not know if this is normal or not. Will there still be bleeding, then it slightly go away, or will there always be the bleeding. maybe should have read the web sites first. Had a girlfriend do this about a month ago, and she is in heaven. She has not had any problems since then. If anyone has any answer, please let me know. The doctor stated a period after this surgery was normal. This is worse than my periods before.

Well, I'm scheduled to have this procedure done on 4/20. I had the ultrasound done and was told no fibroids. My sister had this done two years ago with no problems and is happy she had it done. However, her two friends had it done to but ended up with a hysterectomy due to fibroids and cysts. I'm 45 and the reason I have decided to have this done is due to heavier cycles and just plain tired of the "inconvenience". I am reading this board just for more information. Obviously, I think if someone is having a problem they will seek information from boards like these and that is maybe why we are reading of more problems with this procedure than raves.

Just of quick note to everyone. As mentioned above, I had the procedure done on the 4/20 and three weeks later I am still doing very well. Had the discharge after the procedure, as I was told, which lasted a good 14-16 days. Cramping was minimal and lasted one day and relieved by Motrin. Was prescribed heavier meds, but was not needed. My regular cycle starts next week so I am curious what to expect. I think the trick for Novasure to be successful is to make sure you do not have any fibroids or cysts by your doc doing an ultrasound prior to the procedure. Two friends of mine had this and ended up with a hysterectomy due to having fibroids and/or cycts. Their doctors did not do pre-op sonogram. Just a thought.
