I found information documenting that some bettas in lab conditions lived to NINE years old!!!! They said warm temps, lots of gallons of room for him to swim in, and exercize each day were the deciding factors. For exercize, they chased the betta around his tank for a few minutes each day. I quess with the net; they didn't say.

Just in case this comes up for someone, here's a link for ways to humanely euthanize your betta fish:

It's sad (sniff), but important information to share.

Yuck ! Jilly !

What happened to just flushing them ??

I once had to uthenize a little kitten...it was one of the thousands in the barn where I boarded my horse. It was only about 3 weeks old but obviously dieing. I couldn't stand to just leave it there crying piteously..so I held it under the water in one of the buckets....yes, I cried...but it was alot quicker than it just laying there piteously crying for who knows how long !

After that, euthanizing a fish doesn't sound so terribly hard to do....whatever the method.
