Hey! I was just curious to hear from you all on what you believe is your life's purpose. For so many parents, it is their kids and obviously we have made a conscious effort to avoid that particular purpose. I recently discovered that I don't know yet. My shrink said there is value in simply acknowledging that and I agree...so now that I know I don't know- hahaha- I have plenty of time to explore and enjoy! What do you all think?

I guess that everybody's main and implicit purpose is happiness. You know, to be alright and enjoy ourselves. How we do it is quite a different question, of course.

I've always been highly driven and ambitious, and I've always tried to set goals for my life, both short-term and long-term goals. I guess my biggest purpose is being successful in my career. I want to become a teacher and a researcher, work in top universities, travel the world, publish works... I guess knowledge is what I desire the most, acquiring it and sharing it with others. I want to get to know other cultures, learn other languages, and expand my mind as far as it can go.

Ambitious, me? What makes you think so?

Great question, by the way, I loved it!

[color:"darkgreen"] I have goals in my life that I would love to accomplish. Other than that, enjoy life what it has to offer. [/color]

If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him."

I suppose my purpose in life is to live it according to what I believe, and not according to what others tell me to believe. I want to see the world, experience different things, and hope that in the end I won't have any regrets. In many ways I've gone against the grain (socially anyway) not because I felt I needed to be different, but simply because the things that most people do don't interest me. I know what I want out of life (although I don't know how it'll happen) and that's all I can ask.

According to HH the DL, the purpose of Life is to be happy, and to make others happy. His Religion is Kindness....

I just want to LIVE...have fun, enjoy myself. Spend as much time as possible doing the things that make me happy with the people I love (or at least like.) When I get to the end I want to be able to look back and say, "that rocked."

Mother always said that even when things seem bad there's someone else who's having a worse day. Like being stung by a bee or getting a splinter or being chained to the wall in someone's sex dungeon.

My purpose in life is to leave the world better than I found it. That may sound simplistic or narcisistic but how do you really know? You may never see how what you do or say shapes the future.

To the world you may be one person, but to one person you may be the world.

Purpose?

::scratches head and looks confused for a minute::

Do I need a purpose? I'm actually just kind of...here...I know of things I want to do and things I want to get done, and maybe what would make the world a better place, but I don't think I would consider all of that a purpose (not for me, anyway).

Perhaps I'm being too much of a philosophical weirdo here, but I am not too sure that humans even have a purpose, and that if we do, it's some big cosmic secret.

Or I could be looking at it the wrong way. I guess your purpose is whatever thing you choose as your purpose. I haven't picked one yet, and I may never. I don't need a reason to continue living, it just kind of happens.
