Hello everybody!
I've been reading your posts for a while now, but I decided to join the forum only now, so I could say hi.
I'm Veronica, 21, from Argentina, and yep, I'm considering a childfree lifestyle. Currently, I'm in college, studying Music (Piano, more specifically). I hope I'll be able to pursue further studies abroad once I get my degree... And, well, basically I want to devote my life to my career, research, traveling... A choice that just doesn't seem compatible with motherhood. I'm not very maternal either, so it's not really a sacrifice!
Anyway, I just wanted to say hi, I'm glad to be here, and reading you all is very reassuring... Finally somebody understands!
Cheers to all,
V

Hi there!
I like your Zorak icon!
This is another thing that's great about being childfree -- instead of being forced to watch sesame street with some sprog, we can stay up late and watch Space Ghost and other "adult" cartoons!!

[color:"darkgreen"] Hello, and welcome to our forum! I love being childfree. Also, I'm a natural loner. I actually do get "peopled out." I love having plenty of time for myself. (and then some personal time for my dh, too, of course) I have no interest in kids. Pets yes, kids no.
If motherhood doesn't interest you, don't do it. It didn't interest me, so I didn't do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn't do what I wanted, I'd kill him." --Katherine Hepburn

Hey, everybody, and thanks for the warm welcome! It's good to be here.
Freespirit, thanks for the encouragement. I do believe in planning ahead, and even if I try to live day by day, I also have a whole list of things I want to do... It helps keep me focused and it gives me a reason to keep on going.
Xantres, I totally know what you mean! I'm a great Space Ghost fan... And, yes, I think the freedom of watching whatever you want on TV, or even just laying in bed and reading a book without having anyone bothering you, is actually priceless! That's one of the things I would never give away, specially not because of children!
Hey, WaterLily! I'm a loner too... Of course I have my time for friends and family, but I need time for myself everyday too. Besides, being a piano student, I need 4 hours of study everyday... 4 hours where I need to be alone with myself and my piano! By the way, I love your Katherine Hepburn quote... I already admired her before hearing this quote, now I admire her even more!

Hey, antikid, and thanks for the welcome!
What I'm noticing, which seems pretty amazing and at the same time understandable, is that we, who choose to be childfree, also seem to share many other features... We all seem to be very aware of the power of our decisions, and we take great protagonism in our lives, making of it whatever we want to do! And that's a great thing! And above all things, it's rare... I feel there are too many people out there who just follow the patterns, and become what is "right" or what they're "supposed to become"... I really respect people who take control of their lives instead of letting everybody else dictate what they should do. I think it's the same with children - you're just "supposed" to have them. Who says so? I'm glad there are so many great people here who choose to be responsible for their own lives and live them to the fullest.

[color:"darkgreen"] Thank you, Epee girl. Katherine Hepburn's quote is right on target. I love it.
I love having this website to discuss things relavant to childfreeness and having people to support me (along with supporting others). We wouldn't find support elsewhere unless your lucky to have a No Kidding! brand by where you live (or are lucky to find childfree people. I know too few people who are childfree offline.

In response to Epee Girl...
I agree about being proactive against doing the norm if it's not what you want. I have very good friend who did the Cleaver white picket fence thing. (go to college...meet your mate...get married...buy a house...) She's now realizing that she got married more because it was the next step rather than because she really wanted to spend the next 60 years with this man. I'm afraid they're quickly headed for separation.
We have to "stick to our guns"
I'm so lucky to have a husband that doesn't want children either and parents who don't expect me to pop out offspring so they can be Nan and Pop!
