Democrats are going to hate a great Republican president. It shows the gap between the two parties.

Democrats are going to hate a great Republican president. It shows the gap between the two parties. And I'd say, that just as in the instance of the general Republican opinion of Jimmy Carter, that gap is the gap between internitonal insulated isolated delusion and reality, and it's you who are intensionally delusional. By the way, it doesn't matter which chapter in the The Best Democracy Money Can Buy makes the case. What matters is that the case was made strongly enough by a prize-winning respected jounalist for the the rest of the world to believe justifiably that Bush stole both Presidential elections. How Republicans continue to deny that even as folks come forward testifying that they were asked to write software to manipulate machine-entered votes, even after their favorite Fox aired a demonstration of how easily that could be done, even after the calculations regarding just how unlikely it is that every one of hundreds of anomaly would break in Bush's favor can only be explained by willful ignorance or delusion. I am neither Republican nor Democrat. I vote the man and the situation. I voted for Reagan in 1980 and Clinton in 1992. Because of 9/11 and the stated intentions of Moslem terrorists, I feel we are at a point in history when we need unflinching leadership based on principles. That leadership is being provided by George W. Bush and his administration.

STOP USING 9/11 TO JUSTIFY A WAR AGAINST A COUNTRY THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!
We have now killed 221 !!!!!!! times the amount of innocent civilians as died in 9/11. How much revenge taken against innocents does it take to satisfy you and Bush?"
Judging by the amount of corruption that is being revealed more than daily now among Bush's adminstration, they have no principles what-so-ever.
We do not need as a leader a man who has run every business he was ever involved with into the ground, a man who used his connections to avoid military service and then failed to appear for even the minimal substitute he was given, and a man who made the mess he has made of Iraq and Katrina.
100,000 people per week are fleeing Iraq. We didn't make these innocents free. We made these innocents FLEE their homes. But why not? Bush and his cronies in their refusal to listen to experts who said that the levees were faulty,in their failure to act immediately to help those left there, and in their failure to rebuild the national cultural treasure that was New Orleans at a rate more than that of a 3rd-world nation, also made 100,000's of our own people flee from their homes as well.
You should be ashamed of yourself for continuing to defend such a man.

Donna, as an American in Norwich, UK, what right do you have to tell Jim that HE should be ashamed of himself for continuing to defend President Bush when you have run away from any responsibility that you might have in this country? You should be ashamed for running away from America instead of staying and trying to make changes with your vote!

The comment about democrats hating a great republican president making a person intensely delusional, I guess you can call me that too. The problem is that I am a registered democrat who votes independently, for the person and the issues and not for the party. When I was young, and delusional, I voted straight democratic. After I learned where most of my money was really going and who was being honest and following their heart and morals, I decided that I should follow each candidate, their record and the way they handled themselves and not their PARTY!
President Bush HAS done an outstanding job as president with everything that he inherited from Clinton, along with all the historical devastation that has happened to America. Since President Bush has been elected, enormous tension and strain and panic has been felt by all Americans. During the height of each incident, people stuck together, not as democrats or republicans, but as Americans, because this country, AMERICA, was hurt so much emotionally, financially, politically and psychologically.
There was so much done TO this country, with such frequency, that ALL Americans vowed to stick together to stand against the terrorists. Americans were flying flags on their houses and cars to show support against those attacks and donating money for damages for the natural disasters. Where is all that patriotism now? Are we getting tired now that we are getting close to the end? We must try to be optimists and not pessimists. Have faith and be patient.
We must still love our country and keep terrorists out and fight for freedom for all. Thank God for the men and women in our military. God Bless our troups! God Bless America!

Our votes don't really matter when the presidency is awarded by a supreme court or stolen by Katherine Harris or Ohio ward heelers. Don't criticize an expat for leaving what can neither be changed, nor endured. I would be gone in a minute if it were financially possible. GB will be remembered as a laughing stock and the worst president ever to preside over what used to be a great and respected country.

Babyquacker,
I gave my justification for why Jim should be ashamed to defend Bush.
As for me. I'm 55. I fought the good fight all the way through the Nixon years in my youth. I fought it all the way through the Bush years until after the last election with more than votes, with protests, with every resource I had.
It is one thing to not have confidence in the particular people governing your country. It is quite another not to have confidence in your fellow citizens. After my fellow Americans let the second stolen Bush election stand, even after the example of the Ukraine election and the response by Ukraine's people put that of the US's people to shame, even after the statistical bases used throughout the world to determine which elections are valid and which are not were applied to both elections with the same results, even after people who are experts in statistics gave us the data on just how unlikely it was that every voting anomaly would break in Bush's favor...
Well, after that I lost faith in my fellow Americans. At 54, with considerable international experience, I knew that in Europe I would never again have to worry about whether I would have healthcare if I needed it, I would never have to worry that if age discrimination coupled with "overqualified"-ness (Ph.D. in biochemistry and degree in textile design) made me unemployable I might end up without a home or food. But that "overqualified"-ness would make me a Highly-Skilled emigrant. In fact, I knew I could actually live on the minimum wage here if I really needed to.
But what really tipped it was when I began to see our basic rights being eroded away. Are you aware that the Homeland Security has proposed that no one be able to travel from the US by ship or plane as of 2007 without their prior approval? (google "Homeland Security" amd "permission to travel" if you doubt me.) This at the same time as they are walling off the border? Walls work both ways. Are you aware that at any time anybody can be declared an "enemy combatant" with no reason having to be given and have their right of habeas corpus taken away? This right is the right that makes all other rights effective. Without it you can be "disappeared" and there's nothing anyone can do about it.
In many countries, there has come a time for folks to leave. They are leaving Iraq in huge numbers right now because of the actions of the US government. The people who left Germany before things got as bad as they eventually did were wise. The Protestants who left an intolerant Europe were wise to come to America. So far, considering what has happened in the US in the year and a half since I left, I have seen nothing to convince me that my decision was unwise for me.
As for my having abandoned all responsibility for my home country, why do you think I'm spending my time posting in discussion groups like this? It's my way of continueing to do just that, while at the same time keeping myself safe from the kind of thing that happened to outspoken Americans during the Nixon years.
Any other questions?

12 Generals have demanded that Rumsfeld be replaced as Sec. of Defense. Now 4 military newspapers (Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times, Marine Corps Times) have called for Rummy's replacement as well.
The military is sick of the way Iraq is being handled by the incompetants in power. All Geo. Bush says is "You're doing a heck of a job, Rummy".
Who's the delusional one?
