To get the red, you would first have to bleach it to a golden blond stage and then apply the red over that. Since you have been tinting your hair black, it may be difficult to bleach out and that may damage it.

Yes they can, but it is often damaging because black can be veryhard to remove. However, if you have a professional do it, they can also recondition it before putting on the red.

The red will take if the highlights are pre-lightened.

If I might add a word of caution when going red...since your hair is black, true, prelighting must be done in order to achieve the red you are looking for...the mistake that most stylists make in doing this is lifting to a blonde level meaning a yellow-ish color...when red is placed over this the result after a few shampoo's becomes "pink". The reason for this is there is no natural red pigment left as background color in the hair once it is prelightened....

When this service is performed...the prelightning should not go past a red-orange stage before red is applied. In most pro color lines, the reds contain no background color themselves meaning they are true reds...in order to make a red last longer in the hair and be the truest representation of that color red...there must be red present in the hair. To lift to a blonde and then put on the red would be a waste of your money.

Hi there, I'm new here !

Just wanted to offer a couple of suggestions. Firstly, if you happen to have any greys at all, they'll go red with just 100% pure henna. If you don't have greys/white hair, yes, you can bleach, but why not then consider doing henna on the bleached strands rather than doing red hair dye over the bleach? My concern is that you're subjecting your hair to a lot of chemicals in the hair dye process.

Contrary to what many people think, you can actually henna on permed, dyed, & bleached hair safely provided it's 100% pure henna and provided you leave at least 2 weeks between a perm and henna. It's the metallic salts in the compound hennas ( pre mixed henna colours which are not really pure henna at all) that cause the problems with hair dyes.

The fantastic thing about doing the henna in between your hair dyes/ bleach etc. is that you'll get conditioning out of it into the bargain. If you want to see photos of bleached henna'ed hair, visit my site and go to the blonde hair gallery or brown hair gallery where you'll see photos of Barbee who successfully hennaed her bleached hair ! It looks awesome. Why not consider it ?
