Hmm...it's interesting that you use the word "sacrificial." In ancient times, a sacrifice was something you killed as an offering to a god or multiple gods. Usually it was an animal, occasionally human. I just find it curious that the word, while it can mean the opposite, is appropriate for the act of giving life as well.

I do not know Britney Spears but please try and remember she has parents and children. You know, all the comments in here are the very thing that scares the you know what out of me if my son or more likely when he becomes famous. I don't think it is a gross or bad statue, it is art period. I don't always "get" art but thats ok. I can't imagine what it would be like to be her, she can't do anything, can't say anything, can't act like anything, because if she does it's guaranteed to be front page news. My younger son thinks she is the greatest thing ever.

Forgive me if I appear to be straying off-topic for an instant...

The word 'sacrifice' does indeed have ancient and seemingly out-dated overtones...it is a word that has either fallen largely into disuse, in the spiritual sense, or is used to denote something frankly unpleasant or distasteful...
Perhaps appropriately in this case, this could be illustrated by just how much of herself exactly, a woman sacrifices in order to embark on the task of motherhood....

But sacrifice need not be distatsteful or unpleasant... because what we voluntarily and gladly sacrifice - be it time, space or something more personal - if we do it in the spirit of companionship and altruism, the rewards are more than enough compensation....
It is certain that with regard to long-term sacrifice, the long-term result is both incalculable and unpredictable...Things do not always turn out as one would hope.... but we should at least be glad of our own efforts and be proud that, whatever we gave up, we can hold our heads high and say "I gave it my best shot. And that's good enough for me."

OK....Back to topic....
has Britney had botox in her face?

(I nearly said 'her lips and cheeks' but in light of her current position, I didn't want that to be misconstrued....!!)

It's a shame as she's a fantastic ground breaking recording artist (bordering on genius), love her work.

I've really enjoyed reading all of this.
If I may... I'd like to point out one more. If you look at the front. Aren't women expected to still be cute, and sexy and perfectly coiffed? No matter what ordeal they may be going through? BTW I see a lot of satire in this sculpture. I still giggle when I read they are using this for prolife.

Is sacrifice in present times killing? I don't think so. One use of a word does not the sole connotation make.

If you've been pregnant and given birth, I'd think you fully understand how you were making sacrifices. And then, being a parent involves sacrificing many things. It is a giving through the denying of the self, willingly.

edit: If she's having Botox at age 24, what a shame. I think she's a pretty lady and I do enjoy some of her songs, if perhaps not her outfits.

ROFL!!!

I agree with the other poster, I see a great deal of satire in this that is lost on folks. Her hairstyle to me mirrors some of what you see in Geisha tradition - a very youthful appearing do and a mirroring of some other body structures *cough* (look up the split peach Geisha hair design)

As for her appearance, she's not grimmacing. She is in control, in the moment.

Not her, the statue. That seems to be a big issue is that people can't separate the art from ther person.

As for her baby rearing ways, I wish the woman I caught slapping the tar out of her infant outside of Vons the other day had been Britney Spears. Then I wouldn't have had to threaten her with police action and she would've been caught on tape.
