As far as art goes, I can see this being possibly considered art if there were no specific name attached to it. For instance, there is lots of classical art featuring nudity, but it's not considered pornographic at least partly because the people depicted are not being named.
Attaching the name of a specific person to it adds a certain amount of vulgarity to a depiction of an already obscene act.
Even showing such a disgusting life act is not truly appreciation for the female form. Not all women give birth or even like kids. Not all women are in their twenties, and those of us that are, don't stay that way for long.
Not all women have personal trainers, makeup artists, plastic surgeons, and hairstylists on hand for their every cosmetic need.
Britney Spears is an unrealistic person; she's just a hollywood facade designed to sell something. Maybe back when she was a nobody, a statue like this would be a true pro-life monument. But since she whored herself out to the music industry, it's not about pro-life anymore. It's more like idolatry.
As an artist and appreciator of art, I still think this is totally inappropriate. It's not that depictions of birth should be censored or anything; it's that it shouldn't be some flaky hollywood star. It should rather be of a common woman, someone who knows *real* suffering. Someone whose hair and face aren't perfect, and someone who will actually have to work long and hard to raise her kids instead of hiring a nanny to do it.
The idea that Britney goes through any kind of pain or sacrifice, even in this act, is ludicrous. She has it much easier than any of us, so the whole statue and the whole issue is utter hypocrisy.
Not to mention the undeniable fact that getting knocked up and popping one out is not all that impressive. Just about any woman can do it.
I was watching TV on Saturday, and Saturday Night Live came on. They had a fake news segment, basically where they take real news and add a scathing punchline. Here's the segment that I particularly enjoyed.
news: "Britney Spears confirmed on the David Letterman show that she is pregnant for the second time."
punchline: "This aired on the segment, 'Stupid Human Tricks.'"
This elicited disapproval from the audience, but I couldn't agree more with the SNL script-writers. For Breeders everywhere (meaning, bad parents like Britney), having a baby is nothing but a stupid human trick.
Hey, didn't her son fall out of a high chair recently? Why don't we make a statue of that, as a monument to "good parenting?"
Anyway, sorry if I offend those of you who consider it true art...I am just disgusted by it. It may be partially because I have been disgusted with Britney Spears all along, and because I have been disgusted by pregnancy/childbirth all along. Eeeew! Bad, BAD combination!!
