I agree that Hogan, when younger, made the choice not to kill his body and to use his persona and charisma to get him over. It worked. His body is a mess now despite that but he did have basic skills. No, he wasn't great but he was better than he showed because he didn't need to be a good technical worker. People didn't even want that. They wanted the character and he honed that well.
He told Nick, his son, that he trained for 4 years before he wrestled. That is a lot of training. He just hit the jackpot with his character at the right time and he played off that and that may have elongated his career.
I am not a Hogan fan but I see fans just electrified by him and when he needs to, he can pull off a decent match.
Then there is Flair who pulls off great matches when he should slow down and realize not every match has to be a PPV style bout.
