You know, I wonder if they'd argue the opposite as well - that women who receive fertility treatment and end up with multiple pregnancies, are also sinning against God's choice for them. And to all other types of medical intervention. Frankly it seems quite nonsensical.
I don't know if y'all remember or not, but when "test tube babies" were first being pioneered, and they were actually finding ways of helping infertile couples become pregnant - there was a
HUGE backlash from the church; saying that it was unnatural and evil. I don't know if that is still the party line or not. I do know that when a woman is implanted with mutltiple eggs to better her chance of one actually "taking" if there are mutltiples - there comes into play the debate of abortion - whether or not it risks the mother's and babies' health.
I personally do not remember reading anywhere in the Bible where God said "Thou shalt not take precautions against having children." He does however charge parents with being responsible and loving - and to me I would think that limiting the number of children (to whatever # you can handle) would fall into that category.
Some women are such natural nurturers that they can give love and care to 5 and 6 kids and those children never feel any sense of neglect. Some women only have the capability of having 1 child and want to give their all to that child. I myself have 3 and sometimes find it a major struggle to meet all their needs - be it because of the large age gaps (14, 8, 3) or because 1 has Asperger's I don't know. But I will give up (and do) everything that I do and have to let them knwo they are loved and safe.
But women that just "pump out" babies for the money - welfare in the US, whatever it was you said in the UK - that's not love and caring, that's greed. Those children are raised with nothing except that money means everything.
God is the one that judges sin, and the majority of sin is intent - and that's what's in the heart. So don't worry about Deut. or Matt. or whoever it was that said sterilization was a sin. If i'm not mistaken, they are men anyway.
