Is a person really childfree if they have stepkids?

I have children. And I love them immensely. But even as I love them, I can clearly see and understand the myriad of reasons why singles/couples choose not to have children. And, as my dearest friend puts it, whenever she feels the "nurturing urge," she can always borrow mine for a day or two. Which usually results in reinforcing her decision not to have children. 8o)

Here is a question I hope someone can help me with. I have been hapilly married to my husband for eleven years. We are childfree by choice. We are having a difficult time finding other childfree couples. All of our friends have children, and they either have to wait for a sitter or want to bring them with us. Any suggestions on finding other childfree couples? I have tried to contct my local chapter of No Kidding, but have not heard back from them. Any advice or support would be greatly appreciated! There is also the minor matter of over-populating this planet.... at one point or another, something's got to give.

There will be a time, not too far down the line, when major world powers will be attempting to convince their own country's citizens to limit their families.

Well, if the person has to deal with the stepkids on a regular basis and has to help raise them, then nope, that person is not childfree, but this is just my definition.

Thanks freespirit...and you are so right..as a drug and alcohol counselor I see all of the wrong people having children. The pregnant girls who are addicted to heroin that are begging us for methadone then think the world owes them a living, the prison inmates who were selling crack instead of raising their kids..believe me I could go on!!!!

The young girls who are addicted to heroin then beg us for methadone, the crack addicts who are in jail instead of raising thier kids,it's very frustrating..I actually had one client who became pregnant because she knew we would pay for her methadone, she just had a baby 4 months ago ..and she had that baby so we would pay for her methadone, because we can't refuse a pregnant heroin addict..I could go on!
