Supposedly, taking 1 Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar a day really helps with weight loss. Post below if you're willing to do a study with us from Apr 1-30! For Apr 1-15 we'll all eat "normal". From Apr 15-30, half of us will add in the apple cider vinegar. We'll post results here and find out the truth!!

hi lisa,
i read the article that you wrote. first, our stomachs normally have hydrochloric acid in them to digest our foods. so i cant see where a weak acid, like acetic, would make much difference.
but i believe that the acid/base balance of our whole system does make a big difference in our health. as a general guideline, produce makes our systems more basic, while everything else makes it more acidic. and yes, even oranges with its citric acid, makes our system more basic - which i cant say that i quite understand, even after reading some technical explanations.
100 grams of carbs of good quality produce is not the same as the same amount of carbs of candy. this is where many low-carbers make their mistake. their only guide they use is how fast the food releases its sugars. the slower, the better, according to them.
this is not true, either. it all depends on what our activity levels will be during that day. if i am working out vigourously, i want them sugars as soon as i can get them. lol.
eat as much food as you can, with as little processing as possible. i recently cut out all oils. while i tried to get them as cold-pressed as possible, etc. - they are still in their unprotected form. therefore, highly susceptible to the elements.
i am now eating much more raw nuts and seeds. these are great protectors of the fats inside. basically, as a rule of thumb, i am finding that nuts and seeds contain about 2/3 fat, 1/6 protein and 1/6 carbohydrate. of course, the make-up of those fats are different.
presently, i am eating walnuts, peanuts, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds.
omega-9 (i.e. olive oil) is not one of the essential fats, but i am finding that, at least with myself, i wasnt making an optimal amount of it, without consuming more. the fat in avocados is mostly omega-9. eating nuts and avocados will give one all the omega-6 and omega-9 one needs.
just supplement some flax meal in your diet to get the important omega-3's.

Hi Lisa,
Over the holidays I gained 5 pounds and wanted to lose them. So I thought well this would be the best time to try this apple cider vinegar, for weight lose. I didnt know if I could get pass the smell or the taste. To make a long story short it worked to my surprise and I lost 15 in a months time. But I have to say I did watch what I ate and exercised. If you eat what ever you want especially carbs youre probably going to fail in your weight lose goal. This is true with any diet. Over the holidays I did keep up with my 4x a week work outs two of which are in weight training, but I didnt keep up with my strict diet, which is why I put on the extra pounds.
Here are a few tips that helped me
For weight loss, the dosage I took was 2-3 TBLS of ACV in 8 oz of water (or organic apple juice instead of water) 3x a day just before my meals.
Best type of apple cider vinegar to use is organic unpasteurized apple cider vinegar, in which no chemicals or preservatives have been added, it will have the "mother" visible, and is not pasteurized.
Many commercial acv have been pasteurized- this processing destroys the mother and many of the acv benefits. Plus, if you can believe it commercial brands (pasteurized) taste horrible. I did a taste test on different kinds of acv and the commercial brand made my toes curl. It was terrible.
I found that Eden Organic (acv) taken with organic apple juice was the eases to stomach. I heard that cinnamon helps, but in my taste test it didnt seem to help make the taste any better. The apple juice seemed to mask the smell and the taste of acv.
Good luck! And get ready to pucker your lips.

bragg's organice apple cider is the one that i get. yes, i use it - just not as something to lose weight. there really is no such thing. if you give your body something that it has had a less than optimal amount of, then you will probably notice a good change about something.
i add a couple drops of my "spice" essential oil mix, along with stevia extract (white powder) for sweetener.

HI Again!
bragg's, acv is a good brand too. As for weight lose I feel that there are better weight management diets. Eating healthy, exercising, drinking more water, ect. As for the acv weights lose diet; Im just sharing the out come of my own experiment. And I think that it is great that Lisa is doing this acv study. As with any study you will have some who say it worked and others who say it did nothing for them. I may be the only one who feel that it did work or at least helped in some way. And Im fine with that I had fun with the experiment and thats what counts. I hope the ones who join Lisa in her test- have fun and if nothing else have a good laugh whatever the out come is.

I may be one of the few people who actually LIKES the taste of ACV. I think of it like a tart wine and put it in a nice tulip glass for sipping. It feels luxurous. Maybe it's an aquired taste, but then, most wines are that way at first for beer and cocktail drinkers.

I'm with ya, Jilly! Although I've never thought to fancy it up by putting it in a tulip glass.... I've always had a thing for bitter and sour flavors, from straight vinegar to sugar-free cranberry sauce to pickle brine. I've managed to curtail the pickle brine habit, though... I worry a little bit about the salt. LOL.

Hi! This is my first post.
I've been interested in using ACV for a while, but have two main questions. Firstly, is it possible to get salmonella from unpasteurized vinegar? Secondly, doesn't the constant acidic intake cause the enamel on your teeth to erode?
Since I've never used organic AVC with "mother", I wouldn't know what to do with the "mother" part? Shake it up and drink it too?
