I've had some friends who've tired voip and some like it and in some places, the service stinks, so really trying it this early in the technology implementation is a [censored] shoot.

I moved not too long ago and just do a lot of online chat with friends who are now long-distance.

The Aphex Twin* has said of voip It's amazing what digital equipment has done to improve music. Using regular effect boxes**, I can emulate the sound of music as heard under the influence of any drug. But VoIP beats it all! If VoIP was drug, I would take it everyday!. Isn't that brilliant? Apart from the drug reference of course which is very naughty. Arthur C. Dullard, the renowned expert in such matters, described VOIP*** as "Practically perfect in every way, and that's not a lie". It's true.

** strange little boxes that make 'effects'

Yes, early stage technologies can feel like a bit of a toss up. VoIP has been around for a fair bit of time, and I have heard very good things about SunRocket from a colleague who uses it in my area. He's had it for almost a year and has had great service quality.

Most of the long distance calls I make are to relatives like my grandmother who still has a rotary phone, and has never been on a computer. So online chatting wouldn't work to stay in touch with them.
