So I am planning on taking a little tarot "continuing education" type of class and it has gotten me thinking about divination in general. Most people, I have noticed, tend to find a specific method that they resonate with.

Do you have a method of divination? How does it work into your lifestyle/practice?

I read tarot, I find that I do much better with divination that has some visual element to it. Though I have good luck with pendulum work too. I have a much more difficult time with things like runes or I Ching.

Currently I have a couple of clients I read for regularly, and I probably do a reading for myself about quarterly, and I teach an Intro class on occasion. I would really like to make it a stronger part of my magical repitoire though.

personaly i look for signs...something like 3 crows in a tree on the way to work...which depending upon whats going on at that point in time could represent the 3 sisters which in native american teachings is the equivalent of balance...least to me it is.

with cards and stones and other divination things such as those I feel that there is way too much human intervention ie human error going on or rather could go on...what if i dont like a card...whats to stop me from just pulling another one? in seeing a fox run across the road at 10 am in the summer (something that naturally nearly NEVER happens as they are extremely diurnal) i cant say that i conjured up a fox running in front of my car at 10 am...he and i obviously were meant to meet up. does that make sense?
But thats just me and i have found over the years that my own personal dogma is quite unique amongst all the people of all religions i know.

Wendy! Its good to see you on the forum Thank you for sharing your attention to signs. I recently got a book to review calls Sacred Signs, I just haven't had time to delve into it yet

I've gone to tarot card readers from time to time over the last 20 years. Myself, I use a pendulum for most of my own work, and I have a large crystal ball that I'm trying to work up to scrying with.

I also do "on the fly" divination with my best friend. One of our favorite methods is "divination by Simpsons" where we ask a question right as an episode is about to start, and the question gets answered by something in the show. Strangely enough, the more oblique the question, the better the answer usually is.

I am so not patient enough to scry very well! I think its a gift to be able to do that.

I love your on the fly method too lol. I have done something similar with books (bibliomancy) but never with tv! I think thats a wonderfully fun idea though

HA HA HA.... I will definately have to try the Simpson's scrying method (in fact, guess what hubby and son are watching at this very moment?)

As I type this, my gaze wanders to a crystal ball I received almost two years ago, and have never used for scrying.... I always meant too... hmmm....

I love using cards - of course I like staring at the pretty pictures; but I, too, enjoy watching for signs and synchronicities to answer my questions.

I haven't ever tried scrying in a ball. Mostly just mirrors, inky water, and wine. Though I do have a wonderful polished slice of obsidian that I got to scry with.

for me cards lend to the reading depending on what symbols and images draw my eye first so it allows my visual mind to choose the signs

I am new to the wiccan 'religion' I believe myself to be a natural witch, but was raised in the baptist christian church which in my opinion is a simple-minded person's religion that I always found quite humorous. This is all coming to me so fast, I am confused on where to start. I have several books on solitary practices and Gods & Godesses, but I guess I'm looking for more information on hands-on/instructional beginners material for altar making/circle casting/pendulum/candles/scrying/invoking...... Can anybody refer me to a GOOD source, not anything 'trendy', but serious and helpful? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

I tend to use cards most- they are convenient to pick up & ask. I also use a pendulum, but get best results with that if I have no personal interest in the answer. My Ex interprets the behaviour of birds & listens for messages in babbling water, similarly to you Wendy.

I've just started to ask direct questions to my guides. I sit with a pen & paper & channel their response. I'm still at that- is it me or is it them stage- but when I look back at what I've written I can see it really is in a different voice- and much wiser- than my everyday persona would come up with. It isn't always what I want to hear either!

I'm gonna have to have a go at divination Simpsons style...you may have started something there Rae.

Ssuz-

There are several really great books out there than can help guide you and give you ideas.

Anything by Scott Cunningham is where I would suggest you start. Wicca for the Solitary Practitioner is excellent! (in fact Rae, the Pagan site editor, just did a great review of it that youshould check out)

The main thing to remember is that in anything like altar set up, for example, you should feel comfortable about it. There are no real "rules" for doing it.
