As far as real life animals go, I'm a big owl fan. When stuff gets more fantastical, I've got a fave Roger Dean dragon, and I like things like gorgons and manticores.

Blackwolf is a name that had significance for a long time and now its the name I am recognised under
and Medusa, specifically, has associations with Athena (as does the owl) that draw me that way

Yours wasn't a creature Fiona (they are all star systems). You have The Cup- attributes are brilliance, versatility, craftsmanship- sounds good to me.
Owls get my attention too- I was most surprised to find my power animal was Raven- I was expecting Owl.

Raven and owl are opposites...being the day/night complement to each other. At night owls eat ravens and in day ravens are known to harass and kill owls. It would be similar to having a totem of bobcat/lynx and having to make sure you research snow hare because of the close relationaship the population of one has on the other.
