OK this year I am going to do a bunch of container veggies so I can document how easy it is to do. If you guys all want to buy some container veggies too, we can share tips and notes while we grow them.

I will most definitely grow little tomatoes, little cukes and little eggplants. What else would you like me to attempt? Post here if you're going to do container plants <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Last year I put some green peppers, zucchini, and tomatoes in 5-gallon containers. It was pretty wonderful to have these favorites on hand from summer until frost.

One advantage in growing the vegetables in the containers is that they are generally cleaner and look more appetizing when you harvest them. Most of the time when I grow edibles in the garden proper, they get pretty beaten up during the growing season and often look almost too gnarly to eat. (But we eat them anyway...they just don't always look as inviting.)

I'm gonna do a few pots of herbs, as well as attempt some cherry tomatoes, hot peppers and some leafy things: Spinach, lettuce and bok choy. Bok Choy and Chives are the only thing I've ever been completely successful at growing.... I'm pretty sure you can't kill them.

I'm also gonna plant some Johnny Jump-Ups (I think that's what they're called - they look like tiny purple and yellow pansies).... I know that they're hard to kill and they proliferate like mad, but my real interest in them is that they're edible! When I worked in restaurants, I would often use them as garnish or in salads, they add great color and a subtle flavor. Sometimes I find my low-carb plates looking a little bit green.... green salad, green veggie, and white chicken or fish.... a little bit of purple and yellow thrown in there makes it seem so much more fun!

I love Johnny Jump-Ups - we have them in our yard and I grew them on my front porch last year. I didn't realize I could eat them!!

Nasturtiums are edible as well. Slightly peppery and very pretty.

The caterers who do the wedding where we live use lots of flowers to dress up the foods. I'd love to know which ones are truly edible.

I had 4 container gardens on my patio in Delaware and was able to harvest fresh salads and veggies straight through the winter. When I moved, my neighbor came over and offered me $50 per container because the soil was so good! I used the same process as I had when I did postage stamp gardening.

Expect to do some this year, too, as soon as I get moved. In fact, I don't think I'd do another garden proper, anymore, having enjoyed the ease of container gardening.

Arg, I have to stop moving around so I can have an herb and container garden again!!!! The apartment I have coming up doesn't even have a patio or balcony, so I will have to set aside a space for an indoor tomato bush, methinks. We will only have 680 square feet between two people and one dog, so we will have to be creative!

I'm going to try pole beans in containers this summer so I can set the pots in the warmest location against a south facing wall.
