society tells everyone that the key to happiness is getting married and having children, and anyone who doesnt select marriage as an option as composed to just shacking up or remaining childfree is seen as an opposer to the norm. but in some instances having children is a way to control the population, any normal person without a child cannot get much help from social services or even apply for housing or any type of goverment help from them without a child. alot of people just get caught up into this lifestyle of recieving governmental help and keep having kids. but the department of social services promotes this idea in making people believe that if you pop out a kid you will recieve some benefits, it only keeps these people more attached to the welfare system.

I was very lucky growing up to have the parents I have...even though my family was "old school" traditional - dad worked, mom stayed home - my mother is also a very strong minded intelligent woman, and both my parents encouraged me to prioritize college and establishing a career (and self sufficiency) before decisions about marriage and motherhood...and neither one has ever questioned my choice to not have children.

Mother always said that even when things seem bad there's someone else who's having a worse day. Like being stung by a bee or getting a splinter or being chained to the wall in someone's sex dungeon.

alot of couples do get caught up in the ideal of family only to get more than they bargained for once the child arrives, thats why alot of women experience post partum depression.

Lucky, that's so very sadly true. I've read so many posts and such in various places from people without kids who are told they can't get [X] government help because they don't have kids. I even read one post somewhere from someone who was actually basically told, "you know, if you had a kid we'd help you." Those weren't the exact words, but it was pretty much the idea of what the person said, they admitted it right to her that as a child(free/less) person she wasn't going to get help. These are people who don't know where next month's rent or their next meal is coming from, but they're being crowded out because they're not parents. It's disgusting.

And I bet there IS at least one person out there who was told "sorry, no help" because they had no children, so they purposefully had a kid just so they could get some help with things they needed help with. And I wonder: in that situation, who has it sadder, the kid or the parent?

if people cant get certain help just because they dont have a kid, its discrimation plain and simple, but that would be sad for a person to just have a kid so they could get help, while i would think that both the child and parent have it sad, i would feel worse for the child because, the child is only a pawn in the persons life so they can get ahead.

that is sad that people would have kids to get a free ride out of life, but the free ride can only last so long, the child has to turn eighteen sometime and then they are adults. but people will continue to abuse the govermental system, get phone service in their childs name, get credit cards and ruin their childs credit all for the sole purpose to get ahead. but discrimination comes in many forms unless people do something about it, it is going to keep happening.
