tobasco--I'll have to check out Richard Bach, just from the titles he sounds like my kind of author. Nancy Drew would be great too.

Roni--Great quote under your post! Many of my friends have raved about Wire in the Blood but I've never read anything by Val McDermid. Murder mysteries and action stories always seem to translate well into film.

The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova - that would make a very cool and very creepy movie.

It's loooooooong though. But if you like Dracula stories, you should really appreciate it. It's also a travelogue of sorts. I thought it was cool because I had been to several of the European locales mentioned in the novel.

Cool--I love stories about other places, though dracula type stories are not my thing.

I like your review Jim--this book reminds me a little of the film I Remember Mama taken from a popular book. This would make a great movie--for me just straight people stories are the best and this one fits the bill.

Nelson DeMille wrote a series of three books featuring a smart a** former New York cop named John Corey as the main character. The books are Plum Island, Lion's Game, and Night Fall (I think). The character is so funny that I laugh out loud - I've always thought any of these books would make a great movie.

Mother always said that even when things seem bad there's someone else who's having a worse day. Like being stung by a bee or getting a splinter or being chained to the wall in someone's sex dungeon.

Sounds like a perfect choice for a film Sofie, very Lethal Weapon. When the characters are done well those can be great stories for movies.

I don't know why your novel pick reminds me of this cause they really aren't related but P.G. Wodehouse would be another great one to take to film and he has so many books to choose from. The BBC has already turned Jeeves into a TV series and it was successful, so I think it would translate to film just as well. Those sort of funny, bumbling, quirky British characters are always fun.

There is a book I read many years ago called "Jack"...I have the book somewhere at home, but right now cannot locate it...and unfortunately cannot recall the author's name. It was written several years ago, and is a fictional story of a young man in England who helps out on a neighbor's farm, taking care of the horses. One of the horses, Beth, is a heavy horse - Clyde, if I remember correctly - and Jack has formed a very strong bond with her. When the horses are taken by the government to be used to pull weapons carts in the war, Jack becomes distraught, and finally enlists in the army so he can go and find his beloved Beth and bring her home.

It's a heartwrenching story, very well written...and I think it would make a perfect movie.
