I finally read this page..it is so great to know I'm not alone! No Kidding is great...our closest chapter is 5 hours away though so I don't know how often we will be able to make events. It was just nice reading all of these replies..my husband and I have lost a lot of friends to their children..we still go out, but they bring them with us or they have to work around a sitters schedule. So yes it's a pain...but I've found the more activities we participate in, the more opportunities to meet other childfree couples! We've been doing this the past couple weekends.

Hi Freespirit! I found out where the chapter is and there is one in Sydney. The lady that I have been talking with has one in Brisbane, Queensland (sorry if I spelled it wrong) which according to her is VERY far way from you. I'm sorry. If you want to think about starting your own chapter I can get you the information! Let me know!

My best friend from college, who has been married for several years now, just told me last week that she's pregnant. Until now she has always been one of my few married, no kids cohorts and I always felt a certain kinship to her because of that...and somehow when she told me she was pregnant I felt betrayed. Like I have to go out and make new friends now because she'll change so much and I don't know if she'll even want to be friends with me anymore. It sounds childish, and I know it's not true, but that's how I feel. My husband and I are going to have to try out No Kidding! and see what it's all about...

I, for one, have lost friends because they had children. I have some friends that are like family to me, who I will never give up on. However, more casual friends have blown it by having kids and then forcing them on me and my DH. For instance: I was friends with a married couple. When they had a baby, DH and I tried to deal with it, until this other couple invited themselves over to our apartment (baby and all). I thought this was rude and tacky...I don't want to baby-proof my apartment, I don't want it to get messy, and the thought of a diaper being changed under my roof is just too creepy and gross. I never did let them come over, and I haven't spoken to them since.

Hi Freespirit! We do things like go to dinner (for us though only on the weekends because our chapter is a five hour drive!) They have book clubs and at the end of April we are going on a brewery tour. There are weekend getaways and conventions..all sorts of great things..a great way to meet new childfree couples who think like all of us! And Xantres it was great to hear from you.. I actually had the same experience you described with friends of ours. Its amazing how good manners fly out the window when someone has a kid!
