Last week, I mentioned in my newsletter that my miniature Amaryllis had only a bud stalk and no leaves, and that, normally, the leaves grow and then the bud stalk grows. One of the readers pointed me to some sites that say differently. My experience has always been that way and I, naturally, thought that was the way they grew.
Presently, I have the miniature that is blooming, but there are no leaves, and I have a standard one that has one bud stalk about 15" tall, leaves that are about 6" high and another bud stalk that is about 3" high. My office mate has one that grew the leaves to 20" and then the bud stalk grew to 20" and it is blooming. What has been your experience? What grows first - bud stalk or leaves? Or, do they grow at the same time?
