I am the single parent to two boys on the autism spectrum. We are close knit and live in a small two bedroom, but we all sleep in one bedroom and use the other one for the computer and toys and bookcase and art desk.
Matt is nine and Nick is ten. Since they moved from toddler beds Matt has been in a double bed with me. I never did get him a bed and with all the kidnappings a few years ago here in Southern California it felt safer having us all in the same room.
A few years ago I got a sleeper couch that goes into a double bed and I was sleeping there, until the end of last summer when a gopher was visiting through the walls and with the A/C in the bedroom and me suffering with skin problems and hating the heat with the heater in the living room I have been back in bedroom.
This way I can keep an eye on my son and know when he gets up. He ended up getting up at 2 am and coming out into the living room and sleeping with me, so I never really was alone for a long time and then had to deal with putting the couch back in the morning rush.
I would like to be able to stretch out in my own bed, but don't see that happening anytime soon.
