Hello Charles from that wonderful State of Washington; kind of wet, but very nice. I live here in the Tidewater area and am your age too. Don't worry about education, a school only gives you the tools to get an education outside of academia. We all hope to see and hear more from you in the forum, so welkomen y bienvenido mon ami. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Charles,
Welcome to the forum. Look due east from where you are and you may see me waving.
Back in 1962, When I was in the USMC and stationed in Hawaii, we visited Fort Lewis, WA. for a joint military exercise.
The area was absolutely beautiful. Always ment to return for a more congenial visit but never got the opportunity.
In any case, welcome from New England.

Hi Charles May I add my welcome to you and hope that you participate in and enjoy the forum. Do not be put off by some of the things we say to each other - 99.9% of it is just having fun. I have to admit that o.1% of what I say to SOME of the other members, I mean!!!! {:-)) As you will see I am now the only UK member - Polish origins, way, way, way back - but those Polish residents do not intimidate me! You are far from being the oldest goat in the corral - I can give you a substantial years' lead, but being a member of this forum just makes me feel young again (even childlike sometimes as five particular members will tell you!!!!) - guess who! My favourite Polish proverb which I say to you is: Niech mu gwiazda pomyslnosci, nigdy nie zagasnie (May the star that shines on you, never be extinguished) and also very relevant: Rozumu z laty przbywa (The older the wiser)
so Sto lat! Leslie

Hi Robert (to be polite, I should of said, Herr Stachursk). Thank you for your very warm welcom. It is good to meet with you, and, I do appreciate your sensitivity in the area of my public education, it was very considerate of you and most appriciated.
So, you are no stranger to our weather and Washington State, it as you mentioned, wet. You live in Norfolk Verginia! My wife has described your area on many instances when the subject came to mind. She described it as very very lovely with long white beaches! You are so fortunante!!
Thank you my new found friend(I am not good with languages, but, did understand your very friendly parting)
Danke so freundlich
Charles

Hi John, it is good to meet you, and thank you so much for your very warm welcom, the pleasure is mine indeed. So, also you know our Pacific North West, and yes, you know it when you mentioned, wet...That it is. You have lived (and still do) a very interesting life! Being in the USMC meant travell, world wide. I have met many Marine people and it would seem, no matter the rank or occupation, boy, they all knew how to shoot and operate weapons.
Fort Lewis, I was never on the base (had not a reason)but on the near by airbase McCord (just visiting). The entire area is a bee hive of activity with several bases close in.
You must tell me more of your area in New England. I have heard that it is very lovely in the fall season when the trees turn.
Thank you for being my new found friend, I will look forward to our future discussions.
Charles

Dear Kuba, I must first stop laughing, ok now. Thank you for your welcom and kind words, that of not being the oldest goat, I actually needed that as it is wet and nasty here (not in the corral).
I think though, you are one of the lucky ones, living in sunny California, boy, I would love to have some of that sun shine here to dry out with.
It is my pleasure to meet you and thank you again for your introduction that brought some sun shine into my heart.
Charles

Charles, Guten Tag,
Well our propaganda about the sun is working, however, today it is cloudy and they are predicting rain. But your right we mostly have sun down south here. We actually could use some good rain from time to time.
Auf Wiedersehn,
Kuba

Hi Leslie, thank you for your introduction and very warm welcom, it is most appreciated. So, I see I am not the oldest, well, never cared for those damp corralls any way. You know of course now, both yourself and Kuba will be my friend for ever now, just for your sayings.....
Dear Leslie, I must say this, your poem struck me very dearly, it was so wonderful! I will return to you a poem I once read, but, later...Now, you know that I am a very sentalmental fool over small things.
You are in the UK! My, more and more, I am beginning to understand that this is a very international forum! It is always good for a person to know and understand their origins, it seems to give stabality to the senses and a sense of belonging, at least so it would seem.
Thank you for your saying so, it gives better understanding to one another. As you most likly know, I am not Polish, or even Eastern European, just common place American. Although with out a document of birth or a record to prove so. It cost me a very considerable amount of destress at a later time, but that was resolved in good time. I would have to say my ethinic would be German and what ever. All things have to have a name, so it is.
Now, as my return gift to you Dear Friend Leslie, a poem written by: Henry van Dyha (I think, as it is very old and the signature faded)
" I shall grow old, but never lose life's zest, Because the road's last turn will be the best".
Thank you Leslie for being my friend
Charles

Hi Nancy, very pleased to meet you, and thank you so very much for your very warm welcom. I see you are Polish/American and know exactly your back ground. Do you have the opportuntity to visit your relatives.
Massachusetts, is cold there? I have heard that it is very scenic in the fall when the trees turn, you are very fortunant to live there.
Charles, Last summer (2004) I located cousins living in Poland - before that, I did not even realize that I had relatives there! It was very exciting for me, and we are keeping in touch through the younger members of the family who can speak or write in English (I know only a few words and phrases in Polish). You are right that New England is a beautiful part of the US. Usually we have a beautiful fall, especially in October, but this year November is the nicer month. Here is an aerial view of my part of Massachusetts: [imageBellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. Please use UBB code.
