Chris,

Thank you for pointing me to that travel site (Virtual Tourist)...now I can further identify some of the structures of which I took pictures. <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Just a tidbit on Kosciuszko's US connection...
Kosciuszko was a great friend of George Washington and fought during the American Revolution. He is also responsible for designing the fortification for West Point and Saratoga. He was granted American citizenship and if you vist his tomb in Wavel Castle you will see the red white and blue flowers and well as the red and white of Poland.

Well, I thought I knew plenty about Kosciuszko's U.S. connection...but I did not know that his tomb was in Wavel Castle, not about the flowers placed there. This stop will need to be at the top of my list for my next visit to Poland.

I have not ever visited West Point even though it is basically "around the corner" from my home. I have, however, visited the Saratoga Battle Field and have very nice pictures of the Kosciusko Monument there.

Garden mama,

there is also a plate at the Market square in Krakow where Kosciuszko sweared to defend Poland. But after a final defeat, when Poland did not exist anymore as a free country he left to America.
