In my part of the UK we seem to have had autumn trees like you - started to turn brown or red, but before you had time to notice them, the wind had blown them off. We haven't had any frost yet though just lots and lots of rain.

Oh, you poor people up North; no Collards, no Okra and I bet you have no Black-Eyed peas or Black Walnuts either. I think we have to send you a CARE package and alert FEMA too. LOL.
I like Okra. The plants are tall and have very nice flowers to boot; a double duty plant. Five plants will produce enough veggies to almost fill your freezer for the winter.

And Leslie, England has those wonderful roasted Chestnuts. The one thing I learned is NEVER ROAST CHESTNUTS WITHOUT MAKING A HOLE IN THE SHELL. I once tried roasting them mwithout the hole and the only thing they did was explode. BTW. Acorns can be roasted or eaten but, they have to be soaked in a "solution" of some sort to get rid of the Tannic Acid.

Where I live i.e. central-west Poland this fall is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. The foliage is so bright, there's lots of sunshine, although it was frosty some days ago. Now with the All Saints' Day coming, there is a special smell in the air, of fallen wet leaves, candles and wet ground. I love it. A special time in Poland, if you ever have a chance to visit Poland in autumn, it's worth coming.

The last time I saw collards I was in Tenn.. Okra, oh no !!!!

Tried planting a hardy persimmons tree this spring. No luck.
Forgot where I planted it and mowed it down.

On thanksgiving I have had hog jowels and black eyed peas. But that was in Tenn. Then you crumble corn bread into a glass and pour butter milk over it to drink with a spoon.

The chestnut trees we have here are not edible. Have to go to the market to get the good ones.

Color in the trees is non existant this year. Many leaves are off from the past storms.

Nancy, your right. Pumkins is about all thats left. Oh, I also have some parsnips, carrots, horseradish and potatoes still in the ground.

Well we survived Wilma! Last night it we had thunder and lightening with heavy rain. It just poured. It is still pretty windy . I had to go out and rescue the patio furniture and clean the gutters of downed palm fronds but that was it.

Poland is beautiful in the fall the candles flikering on the graves is really something to see.

Chris,

I forgot you are in Florida now! And I guess you are in the southern part. Glad to hear you did not have damage.

I was worried about Frank in Punta Gorda, and my SIL's condo in Sebring, from the map it looks like Sebring was right in the path of the eye.

Yikes! -
I had forgotten about Frank living in Punta Gorda. Punta Gorda and Sebring are south of us and they would have been much harder. From what I hear they are all out of power there . Our electricity has been on and off all day. We did have one other casulty - although I'm not sure how I feel about it. The wind knocked down a wasp nest on the walkway outside of our apt. The wasps are NOT happy.
